Definitive answer about security

sMiLEy sLOth

OK, so I know this has been asked before and the answer always seems to be the same, however it doesn't really answer MY question.

What is the best software to use in order to protect my PC? (I don't mind paying)

Before you say "common sense and malwarebytes roflol"...I don't always peruse "safe" sites so I would quite like a piece of software that can automatically scan my PC for hidden nasties and keep me safe.

The issue I have with Malwarebytes is that in the free version it doesn't perform scheduled scans and there is no option to scan files/folders by right clicking. Also whenever I see recommendations for Malwarebytes or Microsoft Security Essentials, it's nearly always when people ask for the best FREE antivirus. I don't mind paying if it means I get something better.

Some background behind what I have been using for the past few years:

The past year I have been using McAfee LiveSafe and the year before that, Norton 360. Other than McAfee having WAY too many pop ups that take up way too much of the screen, I have actually been surprisingly happy with them. Before these, I had only ever used Avast and AVG and hated them due to the fact that they seemed to slow the system down too much at the time.

My main priorities are as follows:

Protection (against everything).

Low impact on system performance.

Non intrusive (no huge pop ups).

Automatic scheduled scans.

Something my Mum could use.

Install a GNU/Linux distribution and use a very strong pass-phrase.

Is there a reason you went for the total protection in particular over the internet security?

Malwarebytes Premium is all you need active if you use common sense (not trying to download the internet).

The issue is it's not really common sense for a lot of people. My mum for example doesn't know about computers so for her saying "use common sense" doesn't help. If you don't use common sense what would the best security package be? No human interaction. Just the software doing a good job on its own.

Even when considering the paid versions of Avast, Avira, AVG, Norton, Kaspersky, Panda etc etc ... I'd still pick MSE.  Good detection rate (similar to the others), plenty of settings to make it behave like you want, uses little resources, simple UI, etc etc.
