Chromebook Got Game!

Recently our school gave all the students Chromebooks. Good and bad idea at the same time. Makes grading, handing out, and assigning assignments a lot easier. On the other hand kids will play games, hack, and install Linux.

 

Well my friend installed Linux on his Chromebook and he managed to install minecraft and steam on the tiny amount of storage he had.

 

Results (FPS)

 

 

Minecraft

Running amplified biomes and maxed out settings. (45-60 FPS)

 

CS:GO

With all settings turned down (25-35 FPS)

 

Don't Starve

All settings low. (30-40 FPS)

 

All these results have surprised me because Chromebooks don't even have a GPU they only have a Intel chip clocked at 1.6 Ghz.

It has a SD slot but a kid put Windows on it and it gets about 30 FPS on home screen doing nothing.

Are you serious? I get 15FPS average on a 2011 11" MacBook Air on low settings in Minecraft with a 1336x768 screen.

The chromebooks are the Dell 9 ones and the students keep them until they graduate or they get new ones for the students.

We got the acer c720 chromebook and I'm trying to get games on it. The only problem is that they don't allow you to change the os :(. But now if I do get a game i know that minecraft will work
