Need Advice on Audio Technicas

Scottland567

Is buying the ATH-M30x over the ATH-M20x.  I needed a new headset and have decided to get a mod mic and some audio technicas, however I have a budget of around £65 ($105) for both the mic and the headset.  I am a counter strike player and a casual music listener, would I notice or need the difference in the ATH-M30x.

Any chance you can go a bit higher?

It's not the X version but it's still good, great reviews and such! I don't think there is that much difference between the M50 and M50x apart from looks.

I'm not sure if I trust the website, I only usually pay through Paypal.  However, do you know of any British retailers that sell modmics?

It does look a bit dodgy, here's a site with both modmic's one has a mute button and one does not £5 difference, http://www.limexb360.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=modmic

With a budget like that it's probably just better buying a good headset. Ofcourse hyperx cloud is frequently recommended.

I use this site a lot, they are quite good, maybe M40x with modmic?

http://www.thomann.de/gb/audio-technica_headphones.html if you can squeeze it into the budget?

Based on the money I could have, I will have around £105 at the end of the month, I want to get my moneys worth but I'm not sure I can afford the ATH-M50's, never mind the M50x's.  I could probably afford the M40x's and a mod mic, would I really notice the difference between the M40x's and the M50(x).  If so what are the difference in specs?

Thanks.

The hyperx cloud has quite a bad mic though, this is one of the things I need to be of good quality.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40X-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B00HVLUR54 Same price as Thoman, sold direct by amazon, I would have a look around the reviews, here's a review by another forum member: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/199730-audio-technica-m40x-headphone-review/

M20 to M30 wouldn't be considered as an upgrade, imo. You'd only get a tiny difference. TBH, all the M series sounds pretty much at the same levels, with differences in frequency response, i.e. M50 the most bassy of all. Some people would say, 'yeah, M50 is definitely an upgrade from M20 or 30', that's because the sound suits their preference more (most people love the bassy side of the M50)

I'd recommend going a tad higher and get the Sony MDR-1R. It's around 140 pounds (can't find poundsterling sign on my keyboard) on amazon uk.

Thank you for recommending, but I would have to buy a mod mic also so this is way out of my price range.

I'm using a $1 clip on mic, and it's decent enough for game and casual chat :D
