Does the 3rd band on the Netgear Nighthawk X6 Limit Performance?

Hey guys,

 

I just picked up a Netgear Nighthawk X6 router and my step father did some research and thinks that the second 5 Ghz band can bog down its overall performance. I personally think its a load of garbage since Netgear advertizes the second band being the fastest and I was pulling the same speeds off both but is what he's saying true?
