- Amazing, i'd go with a 4690k if you just game (unless you stream or render)

- Great but overpriced, Gigabyte/MSI.

- Amazing.

Based on your gpu it would make more sens to get a hero and an i5. If you need the benefits of the i7 then get it with the hero.

Yeah, you're forgetting the price premium on DDR4 at the moment.

@charitos

- Good CPU

- Super overpriced, I would sooner recommend the Maximus VII Hero. 33% cheaper but damn near just as good.

- Very good SSD, just remember to update the firmware and run the restoration tool

If you get the Samsung Evo please remember to flash the firmware to the latest version (released October 20ish 2014) as I have seen older firmware drives perform slower then a HDD once they have been used in a heavy to normal use case.

These are very good, but maybe a little expensive choices.

  • 4690K instead of4790K might be an option (if you're mostly gaming) - way cheaper and still more than enough performance for most normal uses and games
  • Hero should be enough - got the Formula myself only for the waterblocks... and to be honest: at least as much because of the looks, too. (But after all, it's my money, so I can spend it like I want :P )
  • Crucial MX100 is (depending on where you live) a cheaper (but equally good) option - god, I wish there was a 1 TB version :(

I agree with most of this baring the motherboard as ASUS RMA policy in Europe sucks balls (Linus words not mine) as ASUS will tell you to go to your retailer rather then them directly, so if you live in Europe go with a Gigabyte (RMA bases in the UK and Germany) or MSI (RMA is in the Netherlands) :)

I've actually always preferred going via retailer/dealer anyway...so for me, personally, not much of a deal. But maybe I've just been lucky, as I have rarely had any hardware problems in my life (at least not while it matters. If a 10 year old MoBo dies, I don't really care much anymore ^^)

It all really depends on the consumer law in your country really, in the UK you may buy a motherboard with a 5 year warranty but only the first year of that will be with the retailer the remaining will be with the manufacture, but your right within the 5 years of the warranty you would have normally upgraded.

I'd recommend:

i7 5820k

X99-A

MX100 256GB

About the same price

Except the cost of the new RAM he'd need.

My recomendation would be i5 + Z97-AR + MX100 256GB.

Perfect for gaming and unless you make money from youtube/streaming or do rendering as a job the ~30% speed increase (unless you use quicksync for either) isn't really worth it.

True. All of it. Maybe I'll have to reconsider one day, if I ever have to experience ASUS' customer service, and it really turns out to be as bad as everyone claims. But so far I never had to - and I've been using their products since the (original) Pentium days (maybe even 486, I'm not sure...). And I just liked their products so far. So, at least for me, no reason yet to go for another company because of that. :)
