Updated Mounting Hardware

TheRunningOtaku
Go to solution Solved by MourningSouls,

I think Noctua will ship you new hardware if a new socket is released.

Hey guys,

When I buy a computer, I get a good case and CPU cooler since they're likely to last a long time.

However, I realised that CPU coolers only lasted as long as their mounting hardware allows (i.e. if I get a new motherboard with a new socket that my CPU cooler doesn't support, it's useless.)

Are there any companies out there that regularly update their mounting hardware and allow people to buy it from them?

Looking at the Noctua NH-D14 or the Phanteks PH-TC14PE (preferably the latter)

Thanks!

You just have to make sure when you buy the MOBO/CPU COOLER that they are compatible with each other.  That is all.

I'm talking about in 4-5 years time, when new sockets come out, is it likely that I'll be able to buy new mounting hardware for my phanteks CPU cooler? How about noctua?

noctua provides updated mounting hardware free of charge... just recently intels haswell-e platform (x99) was released with the cpus... those noctua fans with their SecuFirm2 mounting hardware were able to mount it right away, some older fans with older mounting hardware revision werent compatible... and noctua supplied a couple of mounting brackets free of charge...

it works like this - when a new socket comes out that is no longer compatible, they will release an addon if you may or completely new bracket for the cooler. You will need to provide them with a receipt of purchase of this perticular mobo (or cpu for this mobo) via mail, and they will send you new mounting brackets. (or it will be available for purchase if that wont be an option in any way)...

I cant say that all fans will be supported, but the performance ones and'or top ones for sure.
