LAN Connection Issues

BMARX123

Hi guys,

Here is how I have my network setup: My modem is connected to an Ethernet switch, which leads to a Xbox 360, PS4, and a power-line adapter which goes to my router and computer. For whatever reason, the connection to the power-line works fine, but the connections to the Xbox and PS4 only show  IP address errors. The consoles also connect fine over WiFi, but refuse to connect over LAN. Has anyone run into this issue before, or knows how to fix it?

Why would you plug your router into a powerline adapter plugged into a switch? Your ping must be through the roof.

It actually works just fine. My ping is around 10 ms according to speedtest. Only thing that doesn't work is the LAN to the consoles.

Oh, I guess you've had better luck with powerline adapters. I got a 100 ms ping with a powerline adapter and I was in the adjacent room. Not to mention, this house was built in 2008 so it should have decent wiring.

Did you try the xbox/ps4 straight into the modem, not touching the switch?

I did, and it still gives the IP address error

Make sure the DHCP server inside the router has enough IPs for all your devices.

Stupid question but are you sure you got a switch device and not  a hub..

and I can't picture your network setup but it should be more something like this :  end devices > switch > router > modem (ISP)

PC1 = i7 4790k  -  Asus Z97 Mark1  -  Corsair Dominator 32GB kit  -  Evga GTX 780Ti SC x2 SLI  -  SSD 512GB x2  -  12TB NAS  -  Carbide Air540  -  24" 120Hz x2 3D ready  -  Corsair K95 + M95
Custom Watercooling loop with low profile radiators / fans

PC2 = i7 4770k  -  Z97 Maximus VII Hero  -  16 GB kit  -  Evga GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0  -  Graphite 760T  -  24" VE248 x2  -  Corsair K70RGB + M90
