AX860i Loud?

I wanted to know if the AX860i is a loud PSU, I am a quiet freak and wanted to know how the AX860i fairs

Some people report weird fan problems, so can you please explain what those are too.

Thanks!

The rest of my system will have super quiet Noctua fans as case fans and as the heatsink fan.

I am also getting the 970 STRIX because it is quiet

They're fine. Only really get loud when you start to get close to full capacity.

Not sure about those, but if you have a problem you can always just RMA it.

They are quiet below 50% load. Starting pulling more & they become audible.

You can't, it's in the fan profile so a new unit will have the same issue. I've owned the AX860i before, horrible, went through many rma's just to rule out that I had a defective one, it's just a design flaw. Get something else.

Yes. I've already told you whats wrong with it;

- Crappy fan, noisy even at its lowest speed

- Fan trying to move every 10sec with a click noise

- When the PSU is loaded at the cutout between the semi passive & normal mode, instead that the fan kicks slowly in it just kicks in at 2500 rpm and shuts off like 10 times in a min time.

If it's noisy, you could do that thing where you put in a Noctua fan

I have been very happy with my AX760i. Most of the time the fan doesnt spin at all, and even when it does its pretty well inaudible.

The fan on AXi-series PSUs doesn't even turn on until 20 or 30 % use, so they're completely quiet when idle (like the Strix GPUs :) ), plus I think you can adjust the fan curve with the Corsair Link software :)

I thought you were someone else, Not the same guy from my STRIX 970 overclocking post.

:D

Il get the HX850i, Do you own the HX850i? Because no one is reviewing the HX850i and only the HX750i (Probably the same, apart from watts (Obviously). If so could you list the positives and negatives of it?

HX750i/850i are very good units. Full japanese capacitors, silent fan & platinum rating. There aren't many reviews because they are fairly new units.

Yeah.. A click sound every 10sec when the fan is off. It's a known issue though.

Corsair designed their own fan profile for the AX860i, that's why it failed, with the RM series they designed a new fan profile that fixed all the issues. They've done the same for the AX1500i and HXi series, I own the AX1500i and it doesn't have any of the annoying fan profile issues.

There are no downsides to a HXi, just a perfect unit but costs a lot.
