Suggest me a M.2 SSD

WhiteSkyMage

Hey guys,

I am looking for M.2 SSD. I only wanna have my operating system on it. I really wanna save some cable mess, so the less cables the better.

So I am looking at a range of 80-180GB and really that's max... for operating system  it's enough.

The Transcend ones. There's 3 different kinds based on what size you need them, but they all perform about the same.

Or the M.2 version of the ADATA SP900

The size don't matter, it's for motherboard (desktop) anyways. Supports all sizes.

Maybe Intel 530? Is that good one? It's 180GB but still works...

The 2.5" 530 was a solid SSD but idk about the M.2 version... where are you shopping from? What M.2 SSDs do they have available?

If it's for a desktop then I'd just get a 2.5" drive though

Amazon...or Best Buy... I have the Samsung 850 Pro 128GB SSD on my list but im just looking for M.2 just to stick something in that slot and save the some cable mess. I don't know if I can trust Intel with that 530 180GB SSD...it looks good but... gosh. It's still new and it's a like "hit or miss".

But if that's big of a deal, ima just get a normal 2.5" SSD and stick it in then put the cables behind the MB tray, not a problem, corsair made it easy to do cable management in their C70 case...

Eh, get a 256GB ADATA SP610, cheaper then the 850 Pro and it's much more worth the extra capacity over speed

I need the speed, not the capacity. I said, I don't need more than 180GB (that's the Intel one). It will only be used for operating system (windows 7 or W9/10 idk which is the next) and basic software. Everything else would go on a hard drive.

the 530s came out like a year ago i would hardly call them new...

Idk, i simply trust intel for all their hardware, that's why im kinda trying to stick with them... But Samsung is doing well too with the SSDs...

Well honestly the speed difference for Windows will not be that big between the SP610 and 850 Pro. The only thing the 850 Pro will be a lot better at is numbers in benchmarks. However the more capacity will help over speed because it will allow you to load more programs onto the SSD so that they can also load super quickly.

In a nutshell, have Windows load in 7 seconds off an SSD and a program load in 30 seconds off an HDD, or Windows load in 10 seconds and that program load in 10 seconds both off an SSD. The 20 second program launch difference will be a lot more noticeable then the 3 second difference it takes to boot Windows.

Also Windows 10 is next

Alright, i just would go buy the 128GB Adata SSD. Im just saying, my father has one and all the basic software takes 1/3 of his 120GB Samsung SSD everything else is media stored on the hard drive...I just don't need that much space...Yeah i might just take up maybe half of it cuz i will be doing some Handbrake and video editing which is only 2 heavy programs but other than that, everything else is just media - games, music, videos...

Never tried the Adata but lots of reviewers say they are making good stuff. Ima give it a try.

I thought the same thing but then I started installing games on the SSD for a try and wow, with games that normally take a long time to load like NFS and Battlefield 3/4, my life was made a lot better when I play them after they were moved to the SSD. But with games getting bigger and bigger, having some more capacity will be nice in the long run. I really want to move NBA 2K15 to my SSD as the loading times are absolutely terrible on my HDD (takes >5 mins to load a match), but I only have a 120GB SSD and the game is 50GB. FIFTY.

Many games these days are 50GB and more - COD Adv. Warfare (55GB), Black Desert (MMO) - 50GB, GTA V will be 50GB too...

I was to get Velociraptor, but it's way too noisy, it's good alternative since SSDs are expensive these days.

anyway, im gonna stick with the Intel 180GB M.2 Format and a WD Caviar Black and if I find that SSD is what I need, ima go buy a 512GB ssd and that's gonna be it.
