Backup software for nightly backups

themelvin

Gentlemen and gentle ladies.

So I was setting up a new computer in my uncles office for his business. It's the machine he does all the bookeeping and the such on. Once I was done setting up Windows 7 on it, I decided that it'd be a good idea to set up some sort of backup system for him as well. So I took one of my spare HDD's, bought a simple USB connected HDD enclosure for it, and realized that I had never actually fiddled with setting up a backup before.

So I come to you in need of aid. I need suggestions for a simple to use, free, backup software for all those Excel files and whatnot.

It doesn't need to be anything fancy. I just need something that is able to automatically do nightly backups from a specified folder on the computer, to the external drive that I had set up.

In a perfect world, I would like to set the external drive up at another location, and have the backups happen over the internet in case the whole place explodes. (It's a giant garage where we fix excavators, lorries etc. Lots of flammable materials present.) However if this is a fancy feature reserved for paid software, I can live without it.

Any help is mighty appreciated. Good health to you all!

I use this:

http://www.todo-backup.com/

It lets you select exactly what to backup and when.

If you want offsite backup you could just get him to save his documents to a Dropbox folder? That way he also has access to them if he's out and about.
