Internet speed halved when using wifi?

PigeonFX

Just got fiber installed and get 60+ Mbps when on Lan, but less then half that then using wifi on my laptop 5 meters away!?!??

Is this normal, or is there anything I can do to seed the wifi up?

Fiddle with the WiFi settings, or maybe your router is just outdated.

Or his wireless adapter can't handle 60 mbit/s.

Don't think its outdated, as its brand-new from the ISP........and "fiddle" is a little vague?

Router is from the ISP = The Plusnet Technicolor

Wireless Card = Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wirless Netword Adapter

Im 5 meters away in a workshop, and there are no other wifi devices

What router do you own? And what laptop?

Laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Z500

Frequency Band 2.4 GHz
Network Standard 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n
Your wireless card doesn't seem to be the problem.

I think it's the router.

The problem is both your wireless card and router. Both doesn't support higher wifi standards than b/g/n so it wouldn't matter if you bought a new router. It would be limited to 300Mbps. You would need devices which support ac/5ghz to get better speeds.

that's 240Mbps more then I'm getting on LAN........

And if you mean 30Mbps, I can get it to 40Mbps on wifi standing next to the router.

Check your link speed

Depending on congestion you should get roughly 40%-70% of that Value in Raw TCP,

here I will only get a maximum of probably 30 or 40 Mbps

wifi will almost always be slower than lan, because lan is a more direct connection. lan only needs 1 wire from sourse to pc ,wifi needs to send singel in every direction around your house
