Green- Low power consumption. Optimal for storage.

Blue- General use hard drive. Faster than Green, slower than Black.

Black- High performance drive.

This is really all you need to know, but to add in there is a red drive which is a nas drive basically for servers but can also be used as a more reliable general use drive, slightly slower than blue still faster than green to my understanding.

-.-

For fuck sake...

The Blue is the "average" drive that is good for everybody.

The Green is more about mass storage, slow but with high capacity.

The Black is faster but has the same capacity as the Blue...

Hey Wolffangs147,

WD Blue drive is a regular drive designed for everyday usage that can cover all basic needs including moderate gaming and higher than normal demands. It is the basic drive from the Western Digital line and it is the most used one.

WD Green is the eco drive from the series, designed to run cool, quiet and with lower power consumption. It is made for secondary storage, longer-terms data storing and as off-site backups of large amount of data. Out of the three, the WD Green goes with the highest capacity of 6TB. It does the job for everyday usage but users may experience slow-downs due to the power-saving nature of the drive (spin downs). Here's a link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=780

WD Black is the drive for maximum performance, high-end computing and heavier workloads. It is the best-performing drive of the three, designed specifically for gaming and heavy programs and has the longest warranty out of the three (5 years). Unlike WD Bue, WD Black can go up to 4 TB (WD Blue goes up to 1TB). This drive is very popular among people who do lots of content creation and editing.

Here's also a comparison between all consumer WD drives and their usage: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/internal/desktop/

Hope this helps! Feel free to approach me with any questions regarding WD, storage and HDDs :)

Blue is only available up to 1 TB, while black is available up to 4 TB. So your last sentence is... well, not really correct.

FWIW, I have had nothing but good experiences with WD-Green drives. They are not the fastest but they are quiet, cool and I have never had an issue with them.

How do Reavers clean their spears?

|Specs in profile|

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.
