My review of the DX racer chair

This is easily the best bang for your buck chair that one can possibly buy.  Is it perfect? No, but it will definitely be $350+ well spent

 

The Build

 

When you buy this chair, you will expect a rather huge box to show up at your front door within the week.  The main parts are the wheels, base, column, seat and back.  Installation is fairly easy; however, the instructions could have been revised.  They suggest you build the chair and base separately, then fit the entire char onto the column.  This is a very clumsy process, and you'd be better off constructing from the bottom up.  Aside from that, you will have the chair up and ready in 30 minutes at most.

 

The Chair

 

I opted for the FE08/NR model which comes wrapped in a black and red polyurethane material.  It feels very much like leather, but you will definitely tell it's fake from the strong plastic smell when you first unwrap it. 

 

Construction is very well done.  The chair has a steel frame, which should make it very sturdy.  The cushioning, on the F series in particular, is minimal, firm, but enough to leave you satisfied for long gaming/work sessions.  I've come to realize that a comfortable chair should not be defined by how much cushioning it contains, but how well the designers incorporate the padding in order to relieve pressure points on your body.  In the case of the DXracer, this design was executed very well.

 

Quality

 

The chair is very sturdy.  The Aesthetic is quite pleasing.  The only imperfections are that the seams on the chair are slightly crooked and you may feel that you bought a faulty chair because of it.  However, at least in my case, I was able to verify that the chair is symmetrical with a tape measure.  Also, there are some plastic covers that go over the bolts that fit the back onto the seat that don't perfectly align with frame.  It will fit snugly, but if you have a case of OCD, it may bother you for a bit.

 

Comfort Level

 

The initial experience will leave you very satisfied.  However, when you realize how many adjustment options are available, it will take you quite some time to find the perfect orientation for you, and once you do, I guarantee that you will be happy.

 

You should keep in mind, though, that each "series" of dxracer chair is tailor made for specific body types.  I am 5'8", 180lbs and my F series chair fits me exactly.  I could possibly get away with an F series if I were a couple of inches taller; but if I were heavier I would have to opt for the R or D series.  If you are very tall or very wide, then you will have to buy the M series or King series.

Comfortable as fuck

Very good for posture.

Huge variety of conformations to meet your comfort needs  

 

Cons:  

Actually finding the conformation that makes you comfortable will take some time

MINOR build quality issues

Are the armrests high adjustable? or do you happen to know the height of them off the ground... My desk is quite low and my current chair won't fit under it.... very annoying!

The lowest height for this chair is extremely low.  Perhaps you can let me know the height of your desk and I can do some measurements to compare.  Also, yes, the armrests are height adjustable.

ahhh i see you did buy one awesome! how are you feeling about the purchase moneywise? do you feel it is worth the money spent? also i am taller than you so do you use this chair at the maximum height or somewhere in the middle?

I'm using it at maximum height right now, but my feet aren't completely touching the floor.  Moneywise, there's a lot of value in the f series.  If you're in Canada, I would suggest you purchase one now as they are offering a footrest and mousepad attachment for the arm rest for free.  Not to mention the free shipping that takes less than a week.

 

God, this chair is comfortable...

i tend to sit cross legged in my chair, since sitting normally bugs me for some reason. would this chair support that without too much wear and tear?

Same, I have the same chair @Slick is using.. A cheap office chair that is somewhat comfy, but it needs to be replaced eventually. One thing I can say about it though, I can lean it back almost completely horizontal without lifting a wheel.

Not really, the chair is quite rigid and forces you to sit straight. That, in my opinion, is why it's actually so comfortable.

Not yet, but I'd imagine it would be perfect for that. I believe dxracer offers a special frame on which you can install the chair, wheel, pedals and gear shift for a pretty epic racing setup
