"China, or bust" IOS 8 Jailbreak is on it's last two pillars of hope.[UPDATE]

UPDATE: IOS 8-8.1. Jailbreak has been released by Chinese dev team, pangu.

After an era of silence from devs, Jailbreak writer, Cammy H teased the release of info regarding the eventual IOS 8 jailbreak. In this article, she got to review the top developers in the jailbreak community and ask questions about the status of a possible Jailbreak. While the majority of the main devs are no longer working on a jailbreak, we still came out with something to hope for.

While pretty much all past players in the jailbreak development game have seemingly gone silent this iOS release cycle, this weekend iDigitalTimes caught up with various members of the jailbreak development community to bring you the most comprehensive round-up of information we have so far on possible players and progress on the next iOS 8 jailbreak release. While I can’t assure you’ll be satisfied with the answers, this is what I’ve gotten so far from all possible jailbreak developers.

  • @IH8Sn0wFal says he's not working on an iOS 8 jailbreak and has no info on the impending release date for one.
  • @p0sixninja says he's no working on an iOS 8 jailbreak either. "It's China or bust," commented the legendary hacker.
  • Pangu jailbreak team is probably the most focused currently on breaking iOS 8 but this go around there are additional challenges not encountered before.
  • Don't expect the next iOS 8 jailbreak to be released by the evad3rs. According to the guys, jailbreaking iPhones is getting "boring."
  • An unknown party is said to have kernel execution in iOS 8, providing the greatest chance of an iOS 8 jailbreak we have so far.

With only Pangu officially working on a jailbreak, only time can tell if a public jailbreak will be released by the end of the year. They have the dedication needed, but without a method or exploit, things don't look to good this time around. We also have yet to hear anything offical from this unknown party.

It seems we can either hope pangu finds something, or bank on this unknown party to go public.

you must be new here.

oh wait.

I don't pay much attention to apple stuff, just wondering what a jailbreak for it is, or even if that's an apple specific thing.

Jailbreaking basically unlocks otherwise restricted features on apple devices and allows root access to the iOS file system

I wonder, could someone do this to the software on a console?

I honestly didn't feel the need for jailbreaking anymore. After iOS 7, I lost the interest in jailbreaking altogether since most of the stuff I jailbroke for in the first place got added officially into iOS.

I don't think I could live without my jailbreak. Just some things apple will never do.

This ^ added with the late ios 8 jailbreak is why i'm switching to android this year.

It seems the jailbreak community is going to need some new guys if the master devs are no longer interested. I guess after jail breaking phones for years, the spark just snuffed out.

I'd like someone to rip the OS off of a PS4 and Xbone and put them both on a PC just to see how shitty they are (that would require a hell of a lot of recoding etc. I would assume)

Well depends what would you expect from that jailbreak on console, there are already people using some sort of tricks to allow pirated game DVD's on their consoles ps3/xbox360,no idea about the ps4/xb1.

But if you expect some other sort of full unlock i have no idea,i havent researched on it and idk what else you could do with 'jailbreak' consoles other than steal games. For anything else theres a PC.

You can, but I don't know whether jailbreaks for the current consoles are available. But I think there were jailbreaks for all of the last-gen consoles. Not sure about the X360 though.

Still on iOS 6. Or was it 5. I seriously don't see the benefit of updating my iPad Mini. I barely use it anyway.

Yes there were jailbreaks for consoles, I remember going over to a mates where he had something that copied the disks to hard drive (or some other magic) which made it so that he didn't need to keep disc and would just rent them from video stores and then have the games forever.

I don't get how everytime a hacker can get around Apple's proprietary OS and come up with a new way of getting into the OS. It's happened atleast 15 times already

Not possible. It's binary source and heavily protected by DRM at that. Unless MS or Sony releases their code it's never going to happen.

Jailbreaks aren't hard to write. There's not a lot of coding in it. It's basically hacking the boot loader to allow root access.

That being said if you can't live without a jailbroken iPhone you should probably get an Android phone. You're not the kind of person they're selling to.

Actually you could probably run the source code from the Consoles with a few modifications since they are all x86_64 , The only issue is the code will be super shittly optimized.

Actually watch dogs is a good example of what happens if you just dump console code and recompile it into a PC, It even had some of the settings turned of they knew the Consoles couldn't run.

Main reason people jailbreak their iPhones is so they can pirate apps. That's basically it. Some will say that is not the real reason, but let's not kid ourselves, for the majority of jailbreakers that is the primary reason.
