Borderlands The Pre Sequel using A LOT of CPU

lbrwnie

Hi guys, my CPU is the 4670K @ 3.5Ghz and when I am playing borderlands the pre sequel my cpu usage is pinned at about 70-90%. I have physx on low so would that effect it since I dont have a Nvidia GPU (I have the R9 290). Is this usage normal?

Thanks guys

Yup, doesn't really matter as long as the game is playing smoothly.  Even BF4 uses around 85%, but it plays smooth as buttah

If you do not have an Nvida card and have physx on then it will be using your CPU to process it

if you turn it off it will go right down, however if it does not effect performance it is fine

When I walk around the center of Concordia, my CPU usage is between 12% and 20% but never go above that even I maxed out the game on 2560 x 1080.

Not with a 4670k Are you nuts?

I get at most 50-60% CPU usage on BF4.

I actually don't even have the option to turn PhysX on on my AMD system. It's just greyed out. :(

Yeah most games now force you to have an nvidia card

you are not missing much

it does look nice with the acid weapons on Borderlands though. I'm jelly of my friend with a GTX 580 as it looks awesome with that.

Although in most games I rarely notice.

Strangely the Mac Port of XCOM The Bureau had the option to use it, although in massive fights it would tank my FPS as my 6 Core xeon couldn't keep up with asphalt and metal debris everywhere.

Its a great ability of a GPU being able to handle physics :) It does look pretty but doesn't add much gameplay wise. A potential side affect of the new consoles is that we might see more GPU based physics that run on all hardware, not just Nvidia :)

Maybe I'm just at a different mind set, but when I see my CPU usage gadget thing showing that all 6 of my cores (amd 1090t woo! :P) are being used, it actually makes me happy. It means there are more games actually making use of multicore systems. We need more games to push the CPU.

If you have PhysX on make sure Nvidia control panel is using the GPU not the CPU.
