Streaming Movies to Samsung TV

Anybody know a good way to stream media to a Samsung TV or other (DVD or Bluray) device.

I had it working at one point using Windows Media Player but obviously WMP is terrible and I'd rather not use it.

The other problem was that random movies weren't showing up, this may be a codex issue or just a WMP being sucky.

After a bit of googling I also tried a free streaming tool that had good reviews but I couldn't figure out how to use it.
Any advice is appreciated!

What do you mean by streaming?

Do you know about AllShare Play available on your PC or Galaxy device?

Windows Media Player 12 supports the ability to stream content over the network or internet, and control the music or video playback from the host computer as well.

The feature is called Play To. It was introduced back with Windows 7. It works very well, if you have the network infrastructure. Compatible devices provide supports for it.

You need Windows 7 and up to use it.

It's pretty cool. The decode happens on the host computer, so you need to have the codec installed. I recommend Shark007 codec. Awful website, strange looking control panel, terrible name, but the codec support 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, it doesn't override Windows built-in codecs, but instead expands them, making it not break everything if you uninstall it, you have good support from the author himself, it's free, well built, support thumbnail previews for all formats. Never had problems, unlike CCCP and K-Lite.

Sorry Guys,

PSA: don't forget to follow your own posts!

I used to be able to watch movies on my PC via my Samsung TV and Bluray player which only took checking a few networking options in Windows (7) Groupshare and WMP, however that doesn't seem to be fully working anymore.

I've used all share from my phone (S3) but is it possible from a non Samsung PC? I couldn't find a program for it.

I've used Play To a couple of times and had it work well, only problem is I'd like to be able to play videos when my PC is on but not logged in (I used to be able to do this) so that my family are able to do watch movies when I'm not home.

I'll definitely check out Shark007 I've been using CCCP forever and had no problems with it but its worth a go.

So this is how to make it work (PC to PC. I don't know PC to device, I don't have one). First you need to have Media Player 12 open on both sides

Setup:

Make sure that "Windows Media Player Network Sharing" service is not disabled in services (should be set to manual)

Then on the both computers, in Media Player, click on Stream > "Turn on media streaming", and click on "Turn on media streaming" on the panel that will open.

Then on the client computer, in Media Player click on Stream > "Allow remote control of my player...", and click on "Allow..." on the confirmation dialog that will follow.

Make it work:

Once setup, you are good to go. So make a play list on the host computer in media player, and select the gray/white box with the green play button button, next to "Save list" and "Clear list", buttons. at the top of the playlist. Then you'll have the option called "Play To". Under it, you will see your client computer. Pick it, and it will play the play list you build. You can control the music/video from the host.

First thing I thought of was this: https://plex.tv/ . The good thing is it plays to nearly any device, it gathers metadata/subtitles by itself and is probably easier to use than how you are currently trying to do it :P. You also have the ability to chose what to play from any device, like you can use your phone to control it so you don't have to walk to your pc each time you want to pause/change what is being played.

It is awesome in my opinion, but you have to have a so called "smart" tv or bluray to be able to play things to your tv (which I guess you have).
