970 STRIX Limited By 8-Pin Power?

Hey guys I posted a a topic very similar to this a while back but didn't get as many answers as I wanted.

I wanted to know do you think the STRIX 970 will be limited compared to other NON-reference cards in terms of overclocking by a 8-Pin power connector?

Thanks!

Why do so many people use that avatar...

No you won't be limited, one 8 pin power connector can provide 150W of power which is already the TDP of a reference 970. Add on the 75W that can be supplied by the PCIe slot itself and you've got way more then enough.

Okay that's a big relief! :D

Do you think I could get a higher overclock with a custom bios?

(I don't have the card yet I'm getting it soon)

Shouldn't be a problem, although if you are still concerned you can get a more overclocking minded non-reference to put your mind to rest. The strix, while able to overclock pretty well is more designed for the silence/ quiet operation.

Maybe, but you would be stupid to use a custom overvolting BIOS on an aircooled GPU. The VRMs will run way too hot.
