"Desktop" Computer

Lachlan_OConnor

I'm planning on making a computer that will be housed inside a desk. This will be made for my Design and Technology major piece. I will be putting my current build inside the desk, in doing so the parts will be spread out across the desk under a piece of tempered glass.

I will also be building a mechanism that will raise and lower 3 monitors in and out of the desk. The idea being that I can have more desk space for studying and doing something that requires more space than what is available.

If you have any ideas or suggestions that could make this project better or more realistic let me know.

I would forget the part about raising and lowering the monitors and focus on other things lol. just do something like built in audio and lighting.

I would do that but I the aim of the whole thing is to for fill a need. For me, I thing not having enough desk space is a problem. So I thought a good way to impress the markers and for fill my need I could do the monitors. Im also going to have the speakers in the corners of the desk (house inside the desk). And I also already have an NZXT Red light strip thing that should be sufficient enough.

You could make one for less money... but not a whole lot less, and it wouldn't be as clean and quiet most likely.

If you REALLY want to build it you could use linear actuators and full extension drawer slides.

As a side note, I'm using my workshop bench out of a desk that is 4.5" thick and it drives me nuts... I had to buy a new desk chair that had low armrests so I could raise the seat to a proper level. It bothers me enough I'm considering tearing it all apart and rebuilding it with aluminum beams to make it around 2" thick. I'd advise that you try to make the section you will sit under as thin as possible.

Wow mate! That is the site that i have been dreaming of! Thanks. i will be sure to read up on it. Looks promising!

But im thinking of doing something other than what i have explained here, because of my time limit i can only work with something that i can achieve. But this is all the design process and you have helped me a lot! Thanks for your input.
