What is this sound my GPU makes?

Jacob29
Go to solution Solved by TDP_Equinox,

Alright well I figured out it was my hard drive after all!

Seems to be running fine though so far...

hard drives are not supposed to make that sound....

Back up your data ASAP and replace it.

And since the problem is solved mark the topic as solved please :)

Hi,

mostly just curious than anything and figured you guys would likely know.

What are these sound effects you can hear at 0:02 and 0:07

http://clyp.it/Lucbtfzu [1] http://clyp.it/fc2zslxy [2]

Thanks

I should have stated that its a gtx 970 strix so there are no fans noises as the fans do not spin until above 65*C (which isn't a requirement for this sound).

I don't think it is coin whine as it isn't consistently doing this. Only does it for the tiny bursts that you can hear.

It isn't coil whine.

It isn't a constant whining sound. It is a very short sound that occurs randomly and has no correlation to what I am doing on my PC.

Hmm. When I have compared it to other sounds of coil whine they always seem more prolonged than this.

I would return it if it's still under warranty. No reason to stick with a card like that even if it performs well.

that sounds like a hard drive clicking.
Are you sure it is coming from your GPU?

Pleas tell me you didint make that video. (facepalm)

i didn't but the guys is right. u're linusfanboy and you and every1 else love him as a God. but he was wrong, and if you looko his rly old videos he did tons of mistakes and he knew shit pretty much, like every1 else. what bother you and others, is that he say not to watch his videos, but ask ur father or a guy that work with such things for more than 20-30years and see linus was wrong in the video, not that he was 100% he gave not such a right advice how to get rid of coil, just like i do and others here on forum , give bad advice having no idea whats going on, u get the point?

The reason I don't believe it is anything but the graphics card is because whenever I switch it out for troubleshooting I don't hear that sound.

I have the exact same problem with my 970 msi gaming card. When I first got the card it would make the sound a lot, specifically in the Rome 2 TW built in benchmark the card would consistently make the whining sound. However now, about a week later, I hardly ever get the noise anymore...

My problem is not that he saying Linus is wrong its that the video is terribly made using a text to speech program and is just bashing him for being wrong. and its not like all the things in that video are wrong like changing your power supply can help. that legitimate can help.

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

I has some old corsair fans that came with an H100i that sounded a little like that.

i just got a replacement fan from corsair because mine was making a similar noise.

However, it is far more often, and louder.

ok lest`s walk are separate ways then.

how about both of you learn the English language.

Then, and only then, can you have a public argument in a thread that has almost nothing to do with what you are bitching about.
