Motherboard heatsink Plasti Dip painting

Hello LTT
So I just ordered the MSI Z97 MPower MAX AC, and although i love the yellow, my build is going to be Black and White. Im fairly new in all this modding, and disassembeling hardware, so i don't know what surprises im going to encounter in the process. For example, are there any replacement of the old thermal pads and thermal paste involved? Or can i just use the ones that come off the board, when im finished?
Also, will the heat be a problem? I've read that the paint will insulate and trap the heat, and obviously that's a bad thing. But in other posts, people dont have a problem at all?
The heatsinks on the Z97 MPower, aren't completely yellow, and keep in mind; I's only the small yellow strips and places, and of course, the big M.

I hope you guys have some tips and tricks, on how to do this, so i (hopefully) don's mess everything up.
Sorry for any spelling mistakes, i'm from Denmark so English is not my mother tongue.

I painted my Z87 GD-65 Gaming with plasti-dip and it survived benching a 4.9Ghz 4770k for 72 Hours. So i'd say its fine.

System: 5930K, MSI X99 SLI PLUS, GTX 780Ti (SLI),  840 EVO, Fractal R4 (Full Custom Loop)  (IP)

Media Server/Perm Folder: i3 4130, CX500, 4 X WD Red 1TB, 60GB Adata SSD for boot, Node 304, ASrock Z87-E ITX, 8GB Kingston Value Ram

How about the thermal pads? And are there any thermal paste you have to replace?

Apart from the CPU (obviously)  i did not have to change any thermal pads/paste

Okay. I think i'm going to paint the heatsinks before installing the CPU, and i'm going to use the H100 so changing the thermal paste on there, isn't going to be a problem.

Personally I wouldn't paint over the entire heatsink itself in plasti-dip but do the accents that are yellow, if you plan to mask off areas be sure to use an exacto knife to create cut lines before taking off the tape to prevent the surrounding plasti-dip from peeling,

Exactly. That is why i can't see why i would be such a big problem, if i am only going to be painting the accents.

It just really depends on the motherboard some heatsinks are all yellow or gold and some people want to paint the entire things which they can do but it may heat some of the VRM up a fair bit if they use plasti-dip since it's like wrapping it in electrical tape, in those situations paint would be a better solution. For yours no problem just painting the accents.

I saw somebody who made a very in depth "experiment" with painting of heatsinks. He didn't use Plasti Dip, but surprisingly, the paint helped dissipate the heat and the temperatures actually dropped.

That's interesting was it the MCM guys that did the paint it black where it dissipates more heat with minimal to no airflow.

That was a very interesting video! would recommend to anyone thinking about painting parts.
