Why is my HDD making a slight screeching noise? I've only had it for a little while.

I have a WD Black Edition 1TB, I've only had it since 8 August, this year. I've read a little online and people are calling it the screeching sound of death?

Should I return the HDD? Is there a fix? I have a lot of games on the HDD, so a fix would be prefered.

Are you sure it isn't just a vibration cause by a loose screw?

 

I haven't screwed it in bro, I just fit into the HDD slot... I have a 450D so the slot has these little built in screws that you slot into the HDD itself...

Screwless mounting... I guess it could just be a faulty hard drive then... There is another option. Pretty much all cases with screwless mounting mechanisms still give you the option to put at least one screw in. Have you tried doing that?

 

I have not... But I'm guessing it may be a faulty drive... And if I were to RMA... Should I go to WD or to the place I bought it from?

You could contact the live support before starting the RMA.
