What in the hell?

Ok, so I was just pulling up Linus's daily video on the Zotac 970's, and I got a youtube commercial for this thing

img04.png

I'm not sure what to think about this, personally I think it looks idiotic and more of a pain to use than just a plain old mouse with your keyboard.

The biggest problem I have with that commercial, is that no one uses their keyboard (to my knowledge, at least I've never done it) with their head propped up on one arm. And I've never typed with one hand on the mouse either. Sure I game, but I'm usually in a reclined relaxed position for that, and I'm not so much typing as I am using a select few keys (w,a,s,d, f, spacebar, that's really it.).

This just seems like a gimmick product, and I can't see it really doing that much. Your thoughts?

(Edit: I just saw this, hadn't heard of it, couldn't help but wonder what you guys would make of it)

That mouse bar actually looks funny as hell but I doubt it's practical. A trackball would be better suited and more efficient once you get used to it.

I've never actually used a trackball. I still don't see what's wrong with a kbm setup. never had an issue with it other than the little callus developing on the wrist of my mousing hand, from where it rests on the desk (usually a problem from gaming I would think)

Not saying KBM is back I'm just saying that trackballs are apparently better once you get used to them, in terms of ergonomics and precision

gross

i think they should just invent a mouse you can use with your foot

that would be way easier/

That rollermouse thing has been around for ages. Its pretty popular in office environments and not actually that awful at all.

It's actually a great ergonomic designed for productivity. Improves posture by keeping your hands on the key board, shoulders back.

But if your typing, aren't your hands on the keyboard to begin with?

Could be a thing for media PC´s, where you wouldn´t want a Mouse/Pad. Didn´t watch the video so I don´t know if it´s wireless or not.

Also officework as previosly mentioned. I´d say trackballs>trackpad in precsion and feel, but they take up space and look ugly for the most part.

This was the first thing that popped into my head but I went to the website and its not wireless :( For me the only time these sorts of things take my interest is when they are wireless for a media PC in the lounge, for the time being I use one with a trackpad.

Hey, that´s pretty sleek. I use something similar (sized is comparable to a 360-controller)

It´s the mediakeys, arrows and trackpad that get the most use though, as I have a fullsize keyboard available if typing is required.

I've gotta say this thing looks pretty wonky to use. The roller slides left to right what looks like most of the keyboard and what happens if you have an ultra wide monitor and hit the end before your cursor hits the end of your monitor?

On the topic of track balls I've used a logitech m570 wireless trackball as my only mouse for well over a year now and before that I have another trackball I got to replace my normal optical mouse. It started as a more compact solution for my laptop and I just find it more enjoyable to use. I don't have to move my arm or callus my wrist to use my computer and since desk space is limited for me it just makes sense.

I am the one who goes bump in the night... usually making a sandwich.
