GO PRO: Which one?

mapegl

So I recently saw some videos my brother made on a GoPro Hero 3 BlackEditiion at 1080p/60p. They looked pretty nice and he used it for recording some footage of him and a friend going on a motobike trip through the alps.

I really like the idea of doing that as well. My question now is, since I am not doing this professionaly, would I also be satisfied with 1080p/30p or 1080/24?

Please consider that we are not talking about PC Games of anything, I hate 30Hz on PC Games, but this is a totally diferrent story.

The thing is, I can either buy a Hero 3+ Black Edition for 340,- or a Silver for about 260,- OR get a Hero 3 White for 189,- which for a camera I only use for fun, maybe riding my motorbike a bit and maybe also when snowboarding, would be a very attractive price point.

So anyone with experience wih any GoPro is welcome to comment here. I would really like to hear what pros and cons you have for whatever model you have, and maybe some experience with either recording at 1080/60, 1080/30, 1080/24. Did you notice great differences? I mean all movies are shot at 24p and they look smooth... ;-)

Also have you had experience with different image quality over all between different models? How was recording at night or under water or.....well whatever you have. ;-)

Thank you in advance.

There is a new go pro budget model that does 1080p 30p should be like 99

If you are not doing slo motion or anything, then running at 30fps will be just fine

(for some reason says 1080p 60 but its only 30)

Maybe I should clarify, I already looked at all models they have, so I know their line-up.

What I do not know is the ACTUAL performance difference. Numbers are always great, but do they make a big difference and are they worth the premium.

The problem with this one (despite being a solid choice probably) you cannot change the battery.....that is a no go for me on any device. Thanks though! ;-)

Could you explain why and share your experience with that camera for me? Would be awesome. It is defenitely a highly considered camera for me.

In that case then the Hero 3 Silver is a good buy, the only real difference between the silver and black is the black has a 15fps 4k mode which is pretty pants tbh

There's not really that much to consider m8. You want a reasonably priced GoPro that can do 1080p 60fps.

There is only one answer: The GoPro Hero3+ Silver. It does 1080p 60fps and has a reasonable price.

Try watching a f1 race at 30fps and at 50/60 fps. You definitely want 60fps. Whether you'd be happy with 30fps is a bit of subjective matter though.

Well go watch a go pro video on youtube.. its running at 30p no matter what

60 is really only useful for local playback, or for running it at half sleep for slow motion, (until youtube fully supports 60fps playback)

I think that if you want to record something with a lot of motion and speed like riding a motorbike 60FPS is needed, otherwise I can only imagine some tearing in the recording or just blurriness due to the lack of information in the frames.

Even tough YouTube runs at 30FPS, working with a 60FPS file is alot better and for local playback it makes a world of difference.

That said I do not own a GoPro, tough I'm also looking to buy a GoPro 4 for christmas.

I think the GoPro Hero 3 Black is a good value. Tons of features, and what it doesn't have (mainly SuperView) you can do in post processing very easily. Its a nice value object that has near flagship capabilities.
