NVIDIA and AMD are both working toward 8K resolution (7680x4320)

BiG StroOnZ

Good. If they are working towards 8k then that will hopefully mean that the next generation of cards will be able to handle most games at 4k 60fps. I feel like the 980 got fairly close to that.

Yep, couldn't of agreed with you more but the benefits of just one card being made by working together would be such a benefit to us and them.

I know AMD aren't the best, Intel asked them if they could get involved with Mantle which OK would have helped Intel more but maybe Mantle would've flown but AMD had to say no.

We can all wish.

Honestly we need this for oculus rift,  normal desktops should just stop @2160p  with a nice 144hz

15 years ago there was probably someone like you saying "normal desktops should just stop at 800x600". 10 years ago there was probably someone like you saying "Cell phones should just stop at 320x240".

How about we get a single card that can handle 4k first.

I could see the desire for an 8K TV screen because of how large they can be, but unless you like 32"+ pc monitors, I dont see the point in 8K. Maybe for video editing there might be a use, but for many of us I dont see it.

As someone who has a 28" 4K display, for the first time, i cannot see the need for any higher resolution than 4K. At 4k, individual pixels are impossible to see. I don't use Anti Aliasing on games as its not needed. My intention is to finally purchase a 4k TV at about 40" in the new year now that the GTX 980 supports HDMI 2.0. The TVs i've seen in store are pin sharp. In my opinion, the only devices that would benefit from 8K are projectors.

Amazing graphics at 4k vs marginal graphics 8k. How do I decide....But seriously I would think that at 24 inches 4k is PLENTY.

I doubt that they would release any monitor smaller than 27" with an 8k resolution

I didn't say just games though

And even with the new vram we would need an immense jump in performance to do 8k on a single gpu with semi decent peformance other than video and pictures.

Nvidia Pascal Architecture. 3D memory. Problem Solved.

I should rephrase that, I meant a single gpu card. I don't really count those since it's essentially the same as just running two cards. And even still, those cards won't max out everything at 60fps plus. We should need to be at the performance level we are now with 1440p at 4k before we start to think about 8k.

but you have to aim for 8k i mean these companies have to think about the future, by aiming for 8k they will get benefits for 4k

Oh hellllll no. Everything wonderful will be released around then, as well. Pascal, SkyLake, cheaper DDR4, one can only assume cheaper SSD's.

The next year or two, so far, are my two most anticipated years for technology/computers. Not to mention No Man's Sky, The Division, and Star Citizen. Haven't been this excited in a good while.

come on 8k cs:go or older games...

you know how many people will just play at 1280x960 and lower res for 4.3 even if they're on a 8k panel? no one wants to up their dpi and mouse sen for 1080p half the time let alone 1440p+

"If we get to a display resolution of about 8k horizontally and about 6k vertically then, for a player with 20/20 vision, they will have something that is close to perfect for their visual system."

That doesn't even make sense, display size is important too, having 8K on a 15' screen won't be perfect for anyone...
