A Biased Consumer Conducting an IOS Review

Bansh33

Ok for those of you that saw my previous post you are aware that i was conducting this review. The reason for conducting this review and day by day analysis is to broaden my horizons, and to actually physically compare IOS to the notorious Android OS. For a long time I have utterly hated Apple as a whole. From the marketing department to the fan boys to the nitty gritty hardware i wanted to actually give Apple their final chance to impress me. A little information about me; I have owned and used every single OS that has ever been released on the mobile platform. From Symbian, Palm, Blackberry, IOS, Windows mobile, Windows phone, and Android just to name the big dogs. I have a vast knowledge of all OS' and hope to make this review as helpful as I can to all people contemplating making the switch to IOS from any platform especially Android.

Now with all that being said I primarily will be hitting differences in the OS department with little hardware. The reason i will not be touching hardware is that i have received an iPhone 5C with outdated specs and certainty not Apple's finest. The OS is truly the heart of all devices especially mobile devices; you can have the absolute best hardware and the most slick looking device out there but if you do not have the support of a decent OS and regular support and updates you will not have the latest and greatest piece of technology in your palm ready to annihilate it's competition. I plan on using this 5C for some time to actually make it a quality review and not just use it for a week and decide to rid myself of it. I want a genuine down to the bone review that will hopefully open up some ears.

Some background information before i delve into the preparation and first day on board with the fruity device. My first true smartphone was a T-Mobile G1 with Android 1.0 and i thoroughly enjoyed the experience even though it was a rough transition time due to using a Sidekick LX and Nokia 5310 XpressMusic before hand. I thought widgets were so ahead of the game and that i had the power of the world at my fingertips even though T-Mobiles service back then was super shoddy. Then after that i experimented with a blackberry curve then a HTC HD7 which i also had the best time with because of the crisp snap factor of Windows Phone OS at the time. Then i moved to the notorious phone that started it all and made the smartphone industry sky rocket the iPhone 2G (original). The phone blew me away with the iPod music player an App Store (back then i was like wtf is the app store) abd all these awesome tools and extras. No SD card was needed, the headphones were fantastic and seemed to be great build quality and lets not forget the Apple Stickers :P. After using the original iPhone for some time i needed more of a change i needed a new OS to keep myself and everyone around me on their toes. I went back to Android with the Samsung Behold 2 and used that for a little then went back to the IPhone 3g  and used that until i finally I got irritated with the inflated prices of the iphone and apple products in general. The entire "Lockdown" feeling started to set in and i realized i was becoming another thrall to the Apple Economy and contributing to the actual communist company they truly are. Started paying 1.29$ for all my songs when i originally paid 0.99$. Updates were no longer backwards compatible and forcing me to not being able to download the latest apps because i was not up to date. I said eff it and moved permanently to Android without looking back and it has forever treated me well and i completely adore google for not making me want to stray away for many years due to the great flexibility with the OS itself.

Now for Preparation: iTunes

After I actually decided to follow through with this review i came to realization that i needed to install the incredibly inconvenient iTunes. I sank a little knowing that i had to use this crap shoot of a program if i wanted to stay true to this review betraying my beloved Winamp and Zune software. I installed the program and immediately felt the irritation with the media player as soon as i opened the damned program. I had to create another Apple ID to be able to do anything. The GUI is horribly thought through and things were put in places that you would never look for them. The skin is still the boring slate/gray color that was there years ago. it still overall looks completely the same. Now i had to get my library of 60 some gb's of music scanned in by it. scrolling through the settings i finally discovered where the location finder is. BAM to my surprise it found everything i needed and was able to play everything i selected of different audio formats and it found everything really quick kudos. Another thing with the software i liked that was a big improvement was getting album artworks. It is a little bit of a nitpick for me on any software. Now i know i havent used iTunes for years but selecting multiple albums and clicking get album artwork and it actually working was a god send for me kudos again.

Bye To My Beloved HTC ONE M8

After work today i went to the T-Mobile store by my work and asked for a iPhone and they were unfortunately out of stock on everything they carry of course due to the new 6 being out now. Got back to my home store and they had the 5c in stock and decided to jump on it even though it was in pink but hey that's what cases are for anyways. So i went through the whole process of getting the phone and i really have to hand it to Apple the packaging itself is fantastic, nice and clean, it looks like an awesome little machine on the box but time will tell. Actually having the phone and noticing things from the early days the nostalgia of the first iPhone came flooding back and i honestly got a little excited and enjoyed holding the phone in my hand and the fresh crisp noises for locks and unlocks to button presses it makes even though the damned phone is pink. I look over the device itself and think gosh this thing is small compared to my HTC ONE M8 and i found myself kind of straining to look at the screen a little bit. All in all though besides the screen i really liked the size of the phone, it was comfortable to hold in one hand without any struggle to reach all buttons. I got home and right awat starting trying to sync my music to it. But first of course iTunes needs me to update the iPhone. As much as i like the idea to do updates via PC all i wanted to do was get started using this phone by firstly loading my some of music on it. The download for IOS 8 was was 1.7 gbs and took little time to actually get it installed onto the phone then i was able to get cracking by syncing my music onto the device. Syncing took no time at all and was very quick in fact a lot quicker than using windows explorer for my HTC ONE. After all was synced i went onto the phone and starting copying my contacts and downloading my apps that i direly needed. setting up the phone for the first time was a breeze but took longer than expected due to all the permissions. Scrolling through the app store nothing really impressed me and i haven't really found any apps that weren't on Android. One thing that did quite annoy me was the fact that i needed to enter my password to my Apple Account each and every time i wanted an app. Besides having to enter my password a million times and accepting permissions and location services so far its been a good night no real gripes. but its only been a few hours with much more to come.

Ok well this is a review. If Linus did this which he has, you guys would be ok with it. Leave your judgements out of the review

So like an iSwitched?

Right now I have an iPod touch, I'm considering getting a one M8, so I feel like I will be doing the opposite of what you're doing now.

And don't feel bad, if you've been around here a while you'll know most people here don't like apple. Myself included.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

This is a very interesting thread IMO. I've been using android for two years now on a galaxy nexus and it's just a million times better than iOS 4 on my 2nd gen iPod touch, but that isn't really a fair comparison. Although I'm almost sure android is the better OS for me due to tinkering and stuff I sometimes wonder what it's like to use iOS in it's current form.

I'd have to disagree about iOS making a big jump. iOS 8 has been nothing but a pain for many users including myself. Emoji's not showing, apps that are stuck running and countless other bugs have plagued the OS since its launch. Seems like things have gone downhill since iOS 7, and while they look better then previous versions, the "features" they bring seem to make things even more difficult on the user side of things.

Wasted time and an amazing phone.  On a side note I really hope you kept your M8 and didn't do some Jump crap where you "upgraded" to an iPhone 5c.

TL:DR you set it up incorrectly now it's a hassle. Pretty much all your fault.

You posted a very small portion of an "ios review" and didn't review iOS at all. You made comments about the screen size (that has nothing to do with ios) and talked about itunes (itunes sucks, everyone knows this, but you don't have to use it unless you put music on the phone and with so many streaming services carrying music with you isn't needed these days). You should have waited till you had a full review instead of half-assing whatever this is.
