Dual Workstation desk Build Log

Silentsoul

I looked around for a while trying to find a desk that fit the specific dimensions and needs i was looking for and couldn't come up with anything inside a reasonable price range so i decided to build one. It is 30" in depth and 7'6" in width.

Sorry didn't take any pictures until most of the construction was done.

Rear of desk, filling in some drilled holes and wood flaws.

Still filling in holes and started some mild sanding.

Front of the desk, added in the shim where the chairs will sit and filled in the seams.

After some more sanding.

Added the final rear cross support at the bottom and about a hour more of sanding.

Top Stained and first coat of urethane.

My final thoughts are that i am a little concerned it's potentially drawing too much power for a single outlet and am working on what i want to do about that. The lamp in the room dims when one pc is already on and you boot the other one up. I haven't fully figured out how many outlets are on this same breaker but without going out to look yet i'm assuming it's only a 15A breaker. Suggestions?

Damn, that is one beautiful desk, though I would have opted for black legs.

I'm thinking I might copy this look when I build a better desk!

Any chance you could get me the dimensions of the parts?

I thought about black as well but my wife is into the "country theme" so cream hickory legs fit other things in the house.

I'll look in the garage for the paper of all the dimensions i came up with.

You may or may not see that desk design stolen.

Have at it  B)

Seems kind of cramped with the two towers taking up valuable desk space and the lack of leg room.

I think a lot of it is the camera angles and such. The one picture kinda shows the actual space. There's about 2 ft between the chairs and the outside of the desk and about a ft and a half between the chairs. Doesn't feel cramped to me. Plus can only sit in one at a time

Awesome desk, I've been wanting to something like this for some time. If you don't mind what materials did you use for the build?

Awesome desk build, looks very nice. Im looking to build a similar desk of that size and i just have a few questions for you. What did you do to join the wood together, mortise & tenon or just big screws? Is the top plywood? How strong and sturdy is it, i imagine it is once you got the top on it.

Regarding dimensions, what size are those legs and cross beams. Also whats the thickness of the top?

Thanks

Really clean and simple, especially with hiding all the wiring from view. The top of the desk is slightly more crammed then I personally would like - I'd be one to mount the towers either side by side in the middle on a platform up off the ground, or one on each side, keeping the wires well hidden, but that's because I love large tabletops to strew out lots of paperwork and drawings.

Otherwise it looks beautiful and I may or may not have to copy the design, and adapt it into an L-Shape workstation. :D
