[clarkmcc] YOYOMAH | Water-cooled, i3, sleeved, SAPPHIRE r9 270x

YOYOMAH

YOYOMAH is middle grade gaming/performance desktop. The entire project costs were $650-$800 on my part as some of the components were sponsored.

The PC will be overclocked on the CPU and GPU. I'm targeting to get 1400 out of my 1200 card and 200-500 out of my CPU depending on which one I get.The CPU I have right now is just a Pentium for $40 that I will be using to set up all the other components while I wait for my i3 to arrive.

Update #1 - Painting the case fans

Update #2 - Adding NZXT Kraken CPU Cooler

Update #3 - CPU and RAM

Update #4 - Push Pull Radiator

Update #5 - Second Graphics Card

Update #6 - ENTIRE REVISION OF DESIGN (ITX case)

UPDATE #7 - NEW GPU

Tiny tiny update but had questions as well. I painted my NZXT fans as you can see, but I don't know if I did it right. Has anyone done this and found a good way to create a great paint job?

Thanks! That's great, I am waiting for my radiator which I will also be painting red, but only the outer border block. Any experience with that by chance?

No unfortunatly i dont have experiance with that, because im on air.

However if you paint the outside boarder it should be no probs, but dont paint the fins offcourse.

But Alu can be a pain in the ass to paint, so keep that in mind.

Okay I did not know that thanks. Do I need to prime it first?

That fan looks fantastic, great work so far mate

Thanks a lot! It's a little smudged up close as you can see but from outside the case I wouldn't notice it.

Looks fantastic. Kinda like a trap for AMD fans though, "It's red, but it's all Intel!"

Have you considered adding some lighting to the case?

Ha, very true! Yes I have one coming tomorrow but not sure where to put it yet. I was thinking either on the top or behind the NZXT cable management plate on the side. It's the shiny part.

QUESTION: I have an NZXT Kraken coming tomorrow and I want to paint the radiator aluminum border if possible. Is this a wise idea or should I drop it completely?

If you want to, go ahead. Just mask off the fins themselves (although even painting those isn't as bad as people make out) and anything else that you don't want to be painted. I would simply go over the surface with a little wet and dry at 600-800 grit first, and be sure to clean it up afterwards. Then you need to use a few, very thing coats. You completely went overboard on that fan, go thinner this time and do several layers instead, you'll get a much more even finish. Painting aluminium is easy, no idea why people say it causes trouble. If painting bare aluminium, sand then give it a light priming with any standard car primer, then paint. If it's already painted, you don't need to prime it first.

Finished Projects: Loramentum, VesperModerne, ExsectusAetos

Current Project: Parvum Argentum

If it's aluminium then you want to use an acid etch primer.

Otherwise you may get small surface bubbles when  you put down the primer. I have both types of primer but I was in a rush and used the basic white primer and I got some tiny bubbles that came up after the first coat. Thankfully I got away with it by letting the primer dry and then hitting it a few more times but yeah, I would advise using acid etch.

Yeah the fan was definitely a learning process. Thanks for the input.

I was thinking of getting this case but wasn't certain if it would accommodate water cooling for a CPU and GPU. Can't wait to see what you come up with and hopefully you water cool both.

Just installed the water cooler and will have pics up in a few. I'm not sure that I'll cool the GPU as I'm way out of my budget rigth now but maybe in the near future. The case will do 2 radiators or 1 double wide in the front.

Today I installed my Kraken x31 CPU cooler. This one looks great in the case to. I did not know this but the software that comes with it will allow you to customize the color of the logo on the actually pump. I'm doing mine red (imagine that).

I like it but the painted fan is putting me off. It's too glossy and looks like the wrong shade of red too. I would go to you local walmart in their automotive section they should sell a sparkly red that would match your heatsinks better I think the brand name is Dupli-Color.
