Its currently on virgin media, can anyone help with unlocking or do I need to take it to a shop?

You don't need to take your phone to any stores for unlocking it Instead you can easily unlock your mobile through online providers. Many trustable sites are found online who render the unlocking service for phone. I would suggest  you to visit TheUnlockSpot.com here you need to specify your country,  IMEI number of your phone. Then they deliver unlock code to you through mail with unlocking instructions. Using this you can unlock your phone from Network lock easily.
