Radeon R9 295 x 2 Fan Mod

tdsqsdor

Hi guys,

I bought the R9 295x2 a couple of months ago. It is performing great but I was not happy with the fans.,

I already changed the radiator fan with a Noctua NF-P12 and added an NF F12PWM for a pull function (Attached is a picture of how it looks.)

The question is now: how to change the internal fan which is the one makis the highest noise?

I have opened the card to see the size of the fan and so far, my only conclusion would be to find a compatible one in terms of size and then, as the adaptor is different from the standard 4 pin /or even 3 pin, I was thinking of cuting the wire and the solder it to the new cable/wire fan.

Has anybody tried this before? Would you know what fan would fit and work (watts/amps) instead of the stock one?

Thanks!

BS: as you can see, I have not yet worked too much on the cable management. You will see many wires which are the temperature sensors attached to the Lamptron Fan controler.

Here are my computer specs:

Just measure the fan in it and get a regular square fan, and hot glue it in place by the corners. And look up the pin out and connect the correct pins in the right place.

Well, it will be a bit more difficult than that because the thickness of the new fan needs to be equal or inferior to the existing one or I won´t be able to close the case with the new fan inside. I need then to find a quiter fan, of the right specs in terms of power (easy) but that fits (not sure yet which one).

or

I could remove the existing fan, add a new fan (as big as I want) on top of the case (by gluing or attaching somehow) in a way that the fan would blow inside the whole and reach the radiator for cooling purposes. I would also need to connect the new fan to the card so it can run it at the desired speed (if I don´t connect it and run the fan separately -ie. PWM I suspect the card will show an error as it won´t detect any fan).

OR

I could avoid all of this and change the whole cooling system but it involves more money (whith an expensive card already) and potential pain. Here again a couple of options:

  • EK-FC R9-295X2

  • Alphacool NexXxoS GPX - ATI R9 295X2
