Asus X99 Pro

NumLock21

Looks just like the X99-A, but with the plastic shroud covering the I/O ports found on the Deluxe and X99-S.

I would say "I'd beg to differ" but I think that Asus & MSI's top end board look

Deluxe is still the best!

The -S looks just like the Deluxe except it has no Wifi, a single Lan, and 2 less USB 3 ports. Comes with less accessories than the Deluxe, has a 2-way SLI bridge instead of the 3-way that came with the Deluxe. I've seen them mostly on UK's site, so maybe it's UK region only? A portion of the audio path does light up on the Deluxe, just like the ROG boards, but I'm not sure if the rest of the mainstream Asus X99 board has this feature or not. Of course the lighting up doesn't make it go faster, it's just add some bling to it.

Yessss finally  :D

Any news on when it will be in stores?

Don't know, but my guess on price is around $350ish. Why? X99-A $275, Deluxe $400. Pro mostly sits between the Deluxe and X99-A (Price from Newegg)

What's the major difference between the -S vs the -Pro version, it only looks like a few aesthetics and minor details like an extra full sized PCI-E slot, I'm assuming some audio and connectivity like IO.

I was interested in a lower cost x99 board that wasn't the Deluxe but had that shroud.

Asus X99-S Specs: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99S/specifications/

and Asus X99-A Specs: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99A/specifications/

Main differences imo are WiFi and PCI-E bus allocations. Deluxe is def tops (in the bracket) but Pro isn't bad at all especially if the price is right.

Well, since the cheapest X99 motherboard in the US is still over $200, I'm not surprised.  You were expecting the X99-A to undercut the entire competition? o_O

Yes, considering the bleak feature set I was.

You can almost always guarantee that Asus will have the most expensive motherboard and the shortest feature list in any given price bracket. That's just not where the focus of their R&D is.  But in my opinion Fan Xpert 3 is a fantastic feature, and one that is more valuable than 2 extra SATA/USB 3 ports.

On a side note, I think you have a misrepresentation of the X99 market at the moment.  The cheapest X99 in the US is the ASRock X99 Extreme3 ($209.79 @ Newegg). It has only 2 PCIE 3.0 x16, 6 USB 3.0 (4 back 2 front), no SATA Express, and 2 4-pin fan headers.  This is a X99 board that can't three-way SLI. That would be what I call a bleak feature set.

Pro has wifi and S does not. S uses larger heatsinks both are connected with heatpipes, only the PCH is connected with heatpipe on the pro. 2x m.2 x4 on pro, just 1x m.2 x4 on the S. According to the Pro manual, it also has that pcie x4 card that came with the deluxe. Pro: 1x usb3 header in front of the ram slots, the other on the bottom edge. S, both usb3 headers on bottom edge. No 2/3 way sli/cfx switch on the pro, bare power and reset switches. Legacy com header on the pro, the s has more audio caps at bottom left corner.

agreed. If I was going to do an X99 build, it would be with the WS board.

Regarding the difference between -Pro and -S (sorry, can't use quote on work computer):

Think of the -S as a stripped down version of the -Deluxe.  It loses 2 rear USB 3.0, the WiFi, and a lot of the bundled accessories, but preserves most of the features and functionality built into the PCB (e.g. the PCIe expandability).

The -Pro is a feature enhanced -A.  Same PCB layout, but with extra features.  You can even see the connection points for the WiFi module socket on the -A.

The S has a mPCIe slot for those who like to add a asus wifi module later on, it's the same option they had on the non wifi Z97 Pro. IMO both the deluxe and the S has heatsinks that extends out to where the I/o ports are, they should have made some honey comb cutouts on the I/O shield to better dissipate heat from the heatsinks. A similar design was found on their old Rampage Formula where the heatsinks extends out and has a honey comb cutouts on the I/O shield.
