Sound proofing?

The Doctor

Hello guys! I am trying to sound proof my desk area which is located in a large room in my house which is connected to the Kitchen and the Dining room. I am going to be using an old hot tub cover as a base to put the sound proofing on. I made a basic diagram representing what the setup would be.

I have around $20 USD to spend on soundproofing so I'm not looking to buy anything fancy. I am hoping to block out the sound from the rest of my house and keep in the sound from my voice sitting at my desk. Is there any way I could make this work without breaking the bank? I'm not very experienced in sound generally but I have basic knowledge.

Thanks in advance!

If you have an open area around the cover sound will still bounce off walls and hard surfaces making it not very effective at dampening noise, ideally something like a heavy curtain wall or an accordion wall would be much more effective.

noting at the $20 range, you will need atleast hundred + depending how big the room is and how sound proof
