Brown switch or Red switch?

saxguy67

I have had a black widow for 2 years now with the loud green switches. i saw that the new k95 keyboard came out and would like to get it. I have narrowed the decision down to the k95 in brown and the k95 in red. I have seen the sample switch kits that have the black brown red and blue switches to test but realize that the blues are just like the greens, the blakcs are less common. I don't really want to spend $20 to press 2 buttons...  ^_^

I know it is all personal preference, and I am starting to lean towards the browns more than the reds, since I am coming from green switches. Would you agree with this? What would be your recommendation?

Thanks!

If your a fan of the tactial feel of the Blues then yes the Browns would be good but if you don't go for the quiet red switches with I think 45g accusation point.

I'd say browns. If you have greens now, the browns will be like pressing through tactile butter for you. Thew reds will be like air.

I like my browns because they are still nice to type while being snappy enough in games.

who cares...

Only the blackwidow of this year (2015?) has the chinese "Razer green" switches. You're likely using cherry MX Blues as razer has never used MX Greens.

I use MX Browns now and was coming from a Blackwidow Ultimate 2012 w/ MX Blues similar to you. I can say that I rather the MX Browns over the Blues for for gaming/typing (although MX Blues were very good for typing, not the greatest when gaming). I think that the tactile bump that the MX Browns will be a better fit if you liked the feel of your MX Blues as MX Reds are linear switches and will not be comparable to your MX Blues.

Reds have less of a tactile feel and feel more like one up/down movement. Browns have a discernable "click" when they bottom out and are a good hybrid key. I chose browns after testing out greens, blues, browns, n reds. I found with reds I would bump into keys lightly by accident and they would still register.

I have browns, and they're basically blues, but only slightly quieter. The difference can be heard here, about the middle of the page.

Thanks everyone!

I tried going to bestbuy, staples, walmart, target, etc... and surprisingly none of the stores had any red or brown switches to test. I think I will be going with the browns because I think the reds will be to light for me. Thanks for all the advice!  :D

Browns are like blue's except not at all.  Brown's are a light tactile switch without a click.  Browns are 5cn below blues in force and they're quiet.  Red's are really linear and you can't feel the depression point, but man can you double tap and press keys easy.  I started out with Buckling Springs, then membrane(was horrible) and then went to Browns, after browns I jumped to MX Green's(Not the greens you are talking about as the ones you have aren't greens, but blues if they're from a BW from years ago), MX greens are my favorite tactile switch to date - 80cn to accentuate and 120 for full depression, they're heavier than buckling and freakin' glorious, but not available on Corsair, and then I tried blue's and Blue's are--yeah.  Super light compared to MX Green's, blue's are heavier than brown as you're aware and they're clicky, but I say if you're mainly going with Corsair - go for browns, they're good if you don't like click.  If your'e willing to give up the lighting effects and try other stuff - WASD Code keyboards are amazing with MX Clear's.  My favourite flavour of switch now 8)  So, if you're going Corsair - browns.  Otherwise, WASD, CM-storm, Max keyboard, or Ducky.  MX Clear switches are stiffer browns and I swear just amazing.  xP

Positive.  The old Blackwidows from 2 years ago use Blue's.  The Green switches / Razer Kalih switches only came out this year, so the one you have either has discolored switches or you may have slight colorblindness xP(No offense on that).  Also as for O-rings, they are meant to shorten the key-travel distance and dampen sound.  I used them on my old k70 mx blue, and it's a much faster typing experience, but not for everyone.  I personally like the normal typing compared to O-rings.

I got it when it was first released so it seemed like 2013...

Oh, then it is similar to blue's, but cheaply made and all.  So, then - it's just a blue but different brand which is Kalih.

Then those are vaguely similar to Kalih blues which are a knockoff of Cherry MX Blues. You'll be better off with MX Browns if you enjoy the bump (not the audible click) of your BWU. If you don't like the tactile bump (again, not the audible click), then reds are for you. Other than that browns and reds are quite similar on the spec sheet (45g actuation force).

My friends who have used my Cherry MX Red Corsair K70 all get irritated that they can't type as accurately on it. I'm fine with it.
