Corsair Vengeance K70 VS K70 RGB

pancoon

So I come from using a membrane keyboard with no backlighting and loves to slide around on my desk. I just purchased an awesome Logitech G502 mouse and the equally as amazing HyperX Cloud headset. I am in love with them, but compared to my old, wired non backlight keyboard, I thought it was due time to switch to a mechanical keyboard. After extensive research I decided I wanted to get Cherry MX brown switches for the typing and gaming experience. The only thing left was a keyboard. I think the design of the K70 is absolutely beautiful and looks very high quality, along with all the features I need (full keys, back light, quality media controls, Cherry MX Browns, good availability.) I was looking ath the Ducky Shine 3, but there is terrible availability. Then the K70 RGB came out. I was thrilled because I was unsure how much I would like the red back lighting on the K70 since the the lighting on my mouse was blue (which certainly isn't a deal breaker I just didn't know if having my keyboard color the same as my mouse might look better). I was almost was set on this keyboard until I started seeing reviews on how difficult the back lighting customization was with Corsair's software. Also I don't know how long I will have to wait to finally have the Cherry MX Brown version to come out since only the Reds have come out. What should I do, save some money and go with the K70, or wait for the K70 RGB Brown versions because the wait and higher price is worth the impressive backlighting (minus the software which may or may not be a deal breaker in your guy's eyes)?

TL;DR: I want to get the K70 RGB over the K70 but does the extra back lighting make up for the price and lack of MX Brown availability?

They're both pretty much identical regarding typing experience and hardware-wise (chassis, materials etc.) So you can't go wrong with either one. Personally, I would wait for the K70 RGB because I think it's pretty neat stuff, but I've heard the Corsair software has a learning curve, but that could easily get fixed in the future with updates. I own a K70 and I love it with all my heart, best keyboard I've ever owned. I'd imagine I would love the K70 RGB even more.

As @Izaya Orihara said, MX brows are out. Keep in mind, at least for the present time, if you want a Vengeance RGB board, you'll be paying a small premium, the Corsair Gaming, however, will still run you $170. The only benefits I know of to the RGB over the "old" style is customizable colors, and (hopefully) more reliable backlighting due to a new switch design.

The K70 is limited to a single color, red. (Blues all have dead LED problems). But is brighter and has USB passthrough.

The RGB has all the colors, but the software has a really steep learning curve, is somewhat dim, and has the new logo.

The K70 is limited to one color

and the K70 RGB is more expensive but any color you want.

and the RGB is limited to Red and Brown switches I believe but the regular K70 also has Cherry MX Blue switches.

I know the differences, I just want your opinion on which one to get.

Oh sorry. I like them both. If you like Red, definitely go with the k70.

If not the RGB  has alot of potential and will shape up to be a great keyboard.

Just wanted everyone's opinion on this. Reviews from Amazon, even one just came out 10 minutes ago (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard-CH-9000065-NA/dp/B00N4OBD32/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412207410&sr=8-1&keywords=k70+rgb+brown) are saying that the Brown key switches are making a lot of noise and they are saying to go with the Red. Should I listen and go with Red switches or even the regular K70 with Brown switches?

My browns sound like every other brown switch i've used. It's really personal preference, though

Red and brown have the exact same level of noise. The browns is just broken up by the bump. If you are really concerned about noise, get O-rings.

How much does lighting matter for you? Will you spend the time to customize and make your own lighting configuration?
