I'd personally go for the 970, I'm not entirely sure if it's a better GPU, but I have had really bad experiences with a 290..

EVGA does not have any cooler problems. Do some more research.

And yes, GTX 970 > R9 290.

I'd go with the Palit Jetstream: http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/4096MB-Palit-GeForce-GTX-970-JetStream-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_977473.html

It performs similar to the ASUS Strix in noise, performance and overclocking, but costs less.

They're not misaligned and it's not a design flaw.

Linus talked about this during the last WAN show and you can also hear it straight from an EVGA rep here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQlHyeeICYA&list=UUtKh7t3br1obEQL6EyiAq0w  Skip to 7:45.

Also read through this thread and the responses: https://teksyndicate.com/forum/gpu/gtx970980-guide/186199

But wait, there's more! Paul from Paul's hardware achieved 1499mhz with this cooler, easily. Temps were not an issue. Can watch his review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGo7lpQ2yPY&list=UUvWWf-LYjaujE50iYai8WgQ

Like I said, do some more research. Don't just take one source as the golden truth.  ;)

I thought a little bit an i think i take a 290....

1 its available at the moment

2 i m a little bit a amd fanboy so yeah..

3 the performance gap is not sooo significant

now it´s basicly the question which one of these i pick

atm i would take a card with 3 fans because they are mostly more silent..

but it would be nice to know if any of the other cards i posted on the top would be able to be watercooled

They are basicly all good.

@Kevmo7 did allot of tests with allmost every 290 card out there.

He stated that the powercolor pcs+ realy was a nice card.

But he had some issues with it afterwards.

However the particular issues with pcs+ cards, was something from the first batch of cards, most likely.

The todays cards will probably be totaly fine.

It costs only €269,- + free games so yeah...

Next to that the Windfore and the TriX are also very good.

But the sapphire cost €338,- for that price you should concider a GTX970 realy.

just check @Kevmo7 channel on youtube, you will find allot compairissons from allmost all 290´s out there.

I agree the third heatpipe is a non-issue. what is more concerning is that the very center of the die is not touching copper, but rather the heatpipe spacer. that gives me the heebie-jeebies. its not a game breaker, but its bizarre imo.

For reasoning sakes and for gods sake you can't listen to EVGA LOL. Do you really think they are going to tell you they made a defective product ... No they will sugar coat it because it going to "MAKE THEM MONEY". If you want biased/subjective nonsense then look no further than going solely on what a marketing PR representative has to say about the product that keeps a roof over his head. Of you use common logic then looking elsewhere for information on a given product objectively speaking is the smart thing to do before you spend your money and develop skewed opinions.

Dude, I'm not going only by what EVGA says. If you checked my previous reply, I gave several sources whose collaborative information leads to the conclusion that there is nothing wrong with the cooler and that it functions as designed and functions well. I look at outside 3rd party data as well as what the manufacturer claims and see if they agree. In this case it does, which means EVGA is not lying.

If EVGA's claim did not hold up and the cooler was in fact flawed/defective, we'd see significantly higher temps compared to other manufacturer's coolers, but that simply isn't the case.

You don't seem to want to listen to anyone, whether it be Linus, EVGA, any 3rd party reviewer with good reputation, myself or anyone else on this forum. You have your mind made up, despite any other information anyone tries to provide to you that says otherwise, so talk to me about reasoning.

If you don't like the design of the cooler, that's fine. Nobody is forcing you to buy it. But the fact is; it's not flawed or defective. It's simply their lower tier cooler option. Just like Zotac has their base 970 cooler, which is less robust and less capable than their beefier cooler on their Amp Omega overclocked card. Same thing with MSI and their base 970 cooler vs. their gaming 970 cooler. Two different coolers for two different purposes and levels of performance. With EVGA, it's no different. So please stop this nonsense.

Once again I will offer to you some more logics.

EVGA ACX 970 39dbA Load

STRIX and EVGA temps

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_970_SC_ACX_Cooler/29.html

See the EVGA card has to work much harder than the others at the same time creating allot more noise while at the same time still running hotter due to non other than a defective cooling unit. I mean the EVGA is 10dbA louder that very very high.

Of all 4 cards listed, the EVGA had a much lower idle temp and 2nd lowest load temp by 3 degrees over the Strix. 3 degrees. You're going to give it grief about 3 degrees? Talk about nit-picking.

This is also comparing the ACX cooler with the old style fans. The new ACX 2.0 cooler is what you should be comparing as that will be what all the cards will be equipped with from here on out. With a better fan blade and motor design, it will be quieter and temps will be cooler, if only by a few degrees at least, which puts it right inline with the Strix.

Like I've told you many times over; It's not flawed or defective.

Get a 290: it has mantle, 3 free games and costs less. I would choose the Windforce
