Help me find the right mechanical keyboard switch.

Go to solution Solved by IIIPHENOMIII,

Since you found the blue's "too light" I'd really suggest the clears. Browns are a bit lighter than blue's so yeah, wouldn't be the best choice then.

If you're looking for a Cherry MX Keyboard with clear switches, I'd look into this one:

http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/mechanical-keyboard/wasd-v2-105-key-iso-custom-mechanical-keyboard.html

You can choose what layout, mx clear switch (will set you back an extra 15 bucks so 165 bucks in total) even change the colour of the keycaps etc... check it out.

(this one isn't backlit though).

Also a useful site to look:

After I visited 6 different electronics stores around my area (so every one available) in search für mechanical keyboards to test, which type of switch I like, but I did only find 1 keyboard, and it was a razor, with a razor green switch.

Well, I did not like it, the klicking was annoying and it was to easy to push.

I currently have the Microsoft Sidewinder x4, and I mostly like it, but it is a bit unresponsive and the back light is to dimm. I would test the difference between the switches myself, but I can't find them anywhere. Can you recommend me something?

Get something like this

-snip-

If you can get this, get it to try out the keys - it helps.

If you can't, as you didn't like those razer green switches, you probably won't like mx blues. If you wanna feel something different while typing, you need to try browns or clears. If you want nothing different from mebrance switches except for better quality, faster response, etc, try either blacks or reds.

If there's a Media Markt/Saturn near to you I'd say: visit one of those stores.

Most of the time they've got multiple keyboards laying out there (here in Belgium/Holland I've seen the G710+ with brown switches and the razer keyboard with blue switches) and you can test them out.

Not sure if it's the same in Germany, been a while since I've been there. But you could always check it out. :)

Now, since you said it was too clicky and easy to push you might be interested in the mx clear switches. They're like brown switches but stiffer. (they're not as clicky as blue's but you can still feel/notice the actuation point).

The Sidewinder X4 is pretty similar to a notebook keyboard, meaning, I do have a tactile feedback, it is just very strong and at the beginning of the keypress. So browns or clears, I guess, since I hated the feeling of not having any feedback from most of the membrane keyboards I tried, so that just leaves the question of how much force.

I was in both of those, they only had razors, then aggain, they were pretty small, to find a big one I would have to drive around 70 km, and well, I don't have a car.

Also thanks for the link, it realy helped.

Thanks, it seems, I won't be able to find a backlit MX clear one though, so I will drive to the next big Mediamarket, and see if they have something there, but if the other types don't suit me, the wasd one seems to be my only real option.

If you are into it, modding may also be an option. Tacto Blacks are REALLY nice. (Brown stem black spring).
