r9 270 crossfire vs gtx 970

abbasmo2

title says it all guys, in canada, which is where I live. 2 r9 270s (gigabyte windforce) cost (180$x2) 360$. A single gtx 970 cost 379$, the asus strix. I know about directx 12, the 970 is maxwell, low power low heat, all the features and advantages to the newer architecture. I also know about microstuttering and the problems, heat and power draw associated with 2 cards. IN just the brute performance stand point, which option should i chose, and your personal opinion is always welcome and i would appreciate your advice and input. I could also get 2 r9 280s which would come upto 410$.  I realize 2 cards will probable have better performance then one around this price range but like I said i need some advice.

I will be gaming at 1440p, with a 4790k and 750 watt evga supernova gold psu.

Thanks in advance

Dont crossfire mid rage cards get the 970

EDIT: You will use less power, what happens when you play a game that doesn't allow sli/crossfire?

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

I would opt for the GTX 970 since the performance is much closer to that of the GTX 780 (you can check something like gpuboss as a example comparison or any written review).

go 970.

the 970 will perform better and wont have crossfire issues.

also 270's wont have enough vram to go 1440p

In brute performance, two 270s and a 970 will be a neglectable difference. However there's many things to consider such as scaling in games, and limited VRAM.

Two 270s for 1080p, one 970 for 1440p

For 970 SLI, you are good, my friend. If your Motherboard supports SLI.

I have seen benchmarks of the 270s in xfire doing 1440p just fine

Pretty much every new game coming out scales well with CF/SLI, so in the future 970 SLI will work very well

For now, but games are using more and more VRAM. 2GB is just barely cutting it for now, but even over the next few months it will start to be not enough for 1440p

Go for a single card if you can. Not  worth the hassle of crossfire.

Although crossfire works pretty well in itself, there are still some AAA game that don't support it properly (like Watch Dogs).

Watch Dogs barely supports the PC at all, but it does show there are still AAA games out there that have issues with crossfire even if the technology itself works pretty well.

sli usually has much less issues then crossfire in terms of compatibility with games because of the nvidias better drivers support. i am not fanboying on nvdia as i have both, just realized amd is behind nvidia in driver support.

They're catching up fast, the difference now isn't that noticeable

I agree i was using an r9 270 for a year now at 1080p it was amazing and there wasnt a single game out there that i had issues with. I even had the hd 3870 back in the day, it rocked.
