Hyper 212 EVO vs. a Corsair H100i?

IconicActual
Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

So I am about to build my computer, and originally decided on the Hyper 212 EVO, but I have a i5-4670k I want to overclock and am wondering if this is sufficient or if it's worth spending extra for the temperatures and the aesthetics of the H100i instead.

Thanks!

Stay away from the H100i.  It has a very bad problem with mounting and it is not guaranteed to work for everyone out of the box.  I own two coolers, one being the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, the other being a Cooler Master Seidon 240M. The Seidon 240M is very similar to the H100i, same stats and everything.  I did a Review With Statistics with an i5-4670k that you can look at to see how the performance differs between the two at different fan speeds, and overclock settings.  I recommend the Cooler Master Seidon 240M because it performs incredibly well, and is only $70 from Newegg.com(Used to be $55).

If you are dead set on Corsair, get the H105, provided it will fit in your case.  It is a thicker radiator.

The H100i is great, and the fans are really quiet.

And I use it with an i3 4130 :D

How was installation? The 212's seems to be a bit more complicated than most coolers I've seen.

I'm pretty sure the H100i will demolish (<-- that may be an over-exaggerated word) the 212 EVO, but it's price is also much higher. It does have nice looks.

So would you say the performance is justifiable for the price difference?

It can be difficult to install the hyper 212 evo. I have one and I don't even have it installed because it was hard for me to install (in b4 @TheSLSAMG tells me its not actually hard). Also school work and stuff

I have an H60 (same CPU block) and it wasn't too tough. I helped my friend install a 212 and that was quick and painless. If you're tight on space though, go for the H100 (or the H105, its thicker and i think it looks better)

I could be very wrong

It isn't hard. The instructions are clear. There are 20 guides on youtube.

I Know how to install it, it's just hard for me to position the heatsink and mounting bracket in a way that it will allow me to screw it in. My shaky huge hands are also a problem

It's extremely easy to put together, quite simple.

h100i should have like 10 degree lower temps than the 212 I'd imagine.

Yes, but I own the H105, which is only slightly more expensive that the H100i, but has a thicker 240 radiator that will translate in better cooling.

I tried to get the 212 fitted on AM3+ and it took 2 and a half hours and an unused cooler... (I stuck with the stock cooler as it was such a pain to put on)

Yeah, it's just screwing the fans onto the rad, and then mounting it (though my case doesn't support it, so it sits outside of it :o)

But it's a closed-loop, so there's no setup or tubing if you were worried about that.

The Evo 212 was the first after market cooler I ever installed myself.  At first all the parts and extra parts made it seem a bit intimidating.  But after watching a Youtube video (Because I refuse to read instructions), it was smooth sailing.  Not difficult at all.

Why would you get a low end i3 and spend over 100 dollars on a cooler? You can't even overclock that little thing.

Some people man...they care more about how cool their system looks rather than performance.

Looks are about as far from the thing I care about as possible- I stuffed a new system in a 2007 HP pavilion case, and because it obviously doesn't support rads, I have to keep the radiator OUTSIDE the case at all times.
