FX-4300 VS. 6300

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I need to replace my Mobo and CPU, because my I5 2320 is actually wearing out. I have a nice AMD AM3+

SLI/ Crossfire capable motherboard, but I'm on an extremely limited budget and I need to know if the FX 6300 6 core is worth paying 40$ extra than the FX 4300 Quad.

Please Help?

You can get second hand AM3+ stuff really, really cheaply since it's been around for half a millennium.

Compatible with Windows 95

The i5 is faster than the 4300 so ignore the 4300.

Buy new intel cpu.

Don't bother getting AMD until their new stuff comes out.

Anyone who has a sister hates the fact that his sister isn't Kasugano Sora.
Anyone who does not have a sister hates the fact that Kasugano Sora isn't his sister.
I'm not insulting anyone; I'm just being condescending. There is a difference, you see...

I doubt it is your cpu. I would do a really thorough job investigating your software and OS. When I used a torrent client called vuze I got video and audio stuttering problems whenever I used it. Other programs that used more cpu cycles did not do so. Also, what do you mean by slower speeds? Do you mean the clock speeds aren't ramping up?

If that's the case have you considered thermal throttling? I would check your bios settings to see if you have set the thermal limits low. Maybe use cpu-z or msi afterburner to monitor your cpu temps.

My question is whether you have been able to test the processor in another motherboard? If the problems persist then it would support the cpu being worn out in some weird way. If not, then no.

One last thing. You should consider running prime 95 for a day or so. If it has any errors it will tell you when you end of the run. It should not have errors.

eBay your current hardware and use the money towards the upgrade. Then you can get your hands on a new i5.
