Bad Sectors

alphabeta
Go to solution Solved by WinNut,

Not really, if you have a bad sector it would probably pick it up. Use the Windows CHKDSK utility, it scans for bad sectors quite well. Open a command prompt and type in CHKDSK /? for more information about it.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to the start menu
  2. Search "cmd"
  3. Right click cmd.exe and click "Run as Administrator"
  4. Say Yes to the prompt
  5. Run CHKDSK /F /R (in case you want to know, /F tells it to fix errors and /R dictates to check for bad sectors)
  6. It will say that it can't lock current drive. THAT'S FINE
  7. It will ask if you want to run a check-disk on next boot. Type in "y" and hit OK.
  8. Reboot.

If I have no damaged blocks does that mean that I have no damaged sectors !? or can I have clean block with bad sectors !?

Edit : I'm not asking if my hdd is fine I'm asking If I can get bad sectors without having bad blocks !?

Your Hard Drive is 100% fine, you will only need to worry when it gets really, really bad.

At the moment, let it be; don't worry about it. Hard Drive failure is rare rly.

Compatible with Windows 95

Your hard drive is in good condition. Don't fret about it, and PLEASE don't lose sleep over it.

Software in Windows doesn't really give you a good idea of how the drive is.

Run a chkdsk and a hard drive manufacturer scan on the drive to see how it really is.
