Sennheiser Urbanite XLs

dylandylandylan

Has anyone purchased one yet? Or had the chance to try one out?

Unfortunately nowhere in NZ stocks it as of yet so I haven't had the opportunity to try it out before I buy,

I was just wondering what people thought.

  • 2 weeks later...

All I know is I want one.

I feel you, I was drawn to them as soon as I saw them, I like the style of them a little more than the momentums, we'll see what sound signature I like out of both the momentums, and the urbanites.

I purchased them on Amazon yesterday. Should be arriving Monday.

I'll let you know my experience :)

Thanks, that'd be great!

So; They arrived.

My first impressions were great. Sadly Amazon put my order on hold so I cancelled it and ordered it elsewhere. Managed to get them this morning.

Upon seeing the box I was greeted by a nice box; very simple. Two small transparent stickers hold the box together. I was immpressed and upon slicing these open; holding the main lid the bottom slid right out!

I was greeted with the headphones; staring up (with the cups folder inwards as shown on the product page Sennheiser show!) sitting inside a nice soft foam; The foam feels great to the touch and I have no doubt that it will protect the product great in travel. Both the bottom & the top of the box have this on. (I will post pics if you guys want them!)

The headphones come with a 1 metre cable; enough for any person looking to use these with a laptop or phone (which they are ideally designed for), also included in the box is a small carrying pouch; made of a soft nylon / spandex blend (I don't know what it is; but it's soft, doesn't seem to accumulate too much dust in my testing & is pretty nice to put the headphones in before chucking them in your backpack.

Beyond the (detatchable) cable, headphones & pouch; you also get some cool warranty info & product information. The headphones come with a 2 year warranty which I think is great.

First impressions are always a big thing with new products; I was very impressed with those of the Urbanite XL's. The canvas on the top; combined with it's plain stitching brings a classy; sophisticated look to an otherwise blank top.

The clips and bottom parts of the headphones are made of steel / aluminium.... That's right... METAL! It's great to see headphones manufacturers finally using quality materials on products. It really makes me wonder why they didn't start doing it sooner!! The padding on headphones is SUPER soft, it seriously feels like stroking a babies skin mixed with some combination of velvet, Kudos to Sennheiser for this as it creates a comfortable fit on my head. When combined with the ultra quishy headband the headphones are an absolute dream to wear.

The headphones are adjustable; sliding them feels great. I won't go as far to mention how flexible the headphones are; go watch any of the reviews on youtube to see this for yourself.

The sound of the headphones can really only be described as crisp; not to sharp but not to muffled. Highs, Mids & Lows are balanced well; as I would expect from a Sennheiser product. Despite the claims of bass heaviness I found that they are really just well balanced headphones; The bass is the right amount for me (this is subjective however, so make sure to listen to them if you can before buying... I did!)

I've used the headphones for a good 7-8 hours (almost) constantly today. The Urbanite's really flex their muscle in well-balanced, high quality media. I primarily did my testing with 320kb/s MP3's, I also got through some light Video editing with FLAC audio and I must say that they sound great. On the go the headphones are great; the microphone is rather average in quality, and I had no complaints from the other side in all cases; with the opposite party claiming it sounded just fine.

The Urbanites are a great pair of headphones for the price point. I was drawn by the high quality construction; I stayed for the great sound.

If you've got $249 (£200) to spare and are looking for a great pair of daily drivers for use with devices where use of a USB dac may not be easy or convenient; The XL's are an awesome choice.

I am impressed; If a successor comes out in the future I will be sure to purchase another pair (maybe in two years when my warranty runs out! :P)

Looking at all the reviews, I really think the Urbanites are what the Momentums should have been. I feel jipped for owning a MOE. #MySennheiserExperience

Good, good. I think we need more reviews and a bit less headset questions in this subsection. People ask for help, they buy something and just disappear forever.

Thanks for your review of them!
I just picked up a pair of HD650s for stupid cheap used, so I'm covered on that base for now, but I still need a portable pair of over-ear headphones, so if these manage to come down in price (Or able to be shipped to NZ via amazon) I'm going to pick them up. With a RRP of over $450 here, it's ridiculous.

Nice! The 650's are great (especially if you got them at a good price!)

Shipping is an absolute sucker; I got my XL's next morning guaranteed for less than $15. They arrived bang on time at 9:15am!
