why do people buy gaming laptops?

they are usually too bulky/heavy to carry around, and cost up to 2x as much for the same specs as a desktop.

I mean, a chromebook and a gaming desktop would be better than a gaming laptop.

I usually don't like the style choices Asus make with RoG laptops. I really don't like the look of this. Plastic or metal, pick one or the other.....

why do people buy gaming laptops?

Because carrying a full desktop to a friends house just to play something like LoL or Starcraft or CS:GO is a pain in the ass

I'm actually excited to see how Maxwell mobile GPUs perform because of the amount of power they consume. With a power efficient Haswell and a Maxwell GPU, I'd hope to see much improved battery life over the last gen ASUS gaming notebooks. The top of the line one is very overkill though.. Like jeez.

I'm that guy with the GPD Win.

I love how they look, but I would gladly sacrifice that optical drive for another SSD.

Fantastic design and great specs for a small package, Asus once again nailed the design. However, i am a naysayer to laptops in that price range, but it would be good for someone really needing such on the go performance. I just don't get why they still bother putting webcams on these gaming laptops, they did manage to hide it well in the design, but is there really a need for them?

At that price point, why not have a touch screen, or am I the only one who likes them?

Do people buy this laptop to play CS:GO or FPS games by touching the screen? LOL

Nice to see Asus making a higher end thin gaming laptop, I suppose. Appearance-wise, I think I liked the look of the G750 a bit better, though. Still, I hope the design of the G751 is better than the G750 was. The easy access to the 2.5" drives was nice, but having to basically disassemble the laptop to access fans for cleaning or CPU/GPU for repasting was kinda ridiculous.

Something between 5-10 pounds is too heavy for you?

10 pounds on top of one or two textbooks and several notebooks? yes.

why do people buy gaming laptops?

When I got my GT70 years ago, I needed a powerful machine that was somewhat portable. Sure it barely fits in my backpack, but it beats carrying a desktop around. The new Asus's make more sense than my older machine because they truly have desktop performance while being at the same price as gaming notebooks from years ago that didn't quite have desktop performance.

I was actually considering this machine, but then noticed that it has a 980M with 4 GB VRAM and the MSI GT72 has 8 GB VRAM but costs a lot more. Do anybody need 8 GB VRAM? Will 4 enough?

Afaik, Vram doesn't actually mean performance. If that were the case some €80 card with 2GB would beat a €300 card with the same amount of Vram. All i've heard is that more Vram is usefull for multiple monitors and for texture buffering, correct me if i'm wrong.

4 GB VRAM is plenty, especially since the 980M can't make use of 8 GB.

Does the slim version come with the fan system? All vendors seem to use all press photos

NTPMTck.jpg

and some of them have this picture

sG983HV.jpg

and then they have this picture.

u1nDpF2.jpg

And then they have this

I'm really on the fence if I should buy it or not.

EDIT: The first image is from the top, heh.
