Cracked a screen on my phone. Now what?

TheRagingGamer

I have a samsung galaxy s3 mini and i cracked the screen today. Everything still works but its annoying me. I watched some screen replacements videos but i don't know if i can find a new screen.
What i am most interested in if i can just take of the cracked plastic and still use the display. Its so broken anyways that i doubt keeping it on will help much

Specs: AMD FX 6300 @ 4ghz, Asus R9 270 OC, 8gb Corsair xms3, Cooler Master GX 550w PSU, WD 500 blue, Gigabyte  GA-970A-DS3

I cracked mine really bad (still operated as normal) and tried to fix it and broke it even more, now it doesn't show anything on the display.

How bad is it cracked? If it's like a few pieces you should be fine and a shop could do it for you, if its shattered you're best off sending it to your contract provider or Samsung.

If you take off the plastic the touch screen won't work.

Yeah that's the digitizer, it turns your touches into something your phone can read.

You can probably find one on amazon if you wanna try. I found one for my, MyTouch 4G. That phone was like 4 years old at the time.

  • 1 month later...

Replace the screen.

You can replace the whole screen or just the cover; digitizer (if its not working).

Replacing just one part is cheaper than the whole display, but also more risky.

Honestly, replace the screen if you're confident enough. If not, send it to a repair shop. Doing it yourself is cheaper though, while sending it to a repair shop would cost more (probably).

The safest solution would be to have it repaired by someone who knows what he is doing, some of those cheaper phone stores can replace your screen for a little bit of money.
