After many hold-ups and delays to Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process it seemed that Broadwell was a far off sight. But now news has trickled through VR-zone of Intel preparing a big announcement for CES 2015. With more than a dozen Broadwell-U SKUs  planned for a Q1 2015 launch. This stands as a great sign for recovery to what seemed like a troublesome transition. Intel’s cutting edge 14nm manufacturing process is finally baring good fruit.

So apparently Skylake and Broadwell will exist but Skylake K will come later, possibly even in 2016.
That's a long wait and will definitely put it right against AMD's brand new SMT Zen core that will ditch the resource sharing of bulldozer.

That article is pretty bad. I mean...

With the new range of 100 series Intel desktop chipsets which will support both Broadwell and Skylake desktop processors.

Someone tell that guy Intel swaps sockets with every tock. Someone let him know LGA 1151 is already a pretty well established fact. Or even tell him his own freaking colleague wrote about that!

What are the differences between Broadwell and Skylake?

New architecture, new socket, new chipsets, DDR4 memory support.

I'm kinda hoping AMD does /something/ that has close enough performance on the single thread and good enough on the multi. Also with DDR3 support to resume using my 16GB kit.

So in january of 2015 intel will launch 2 new  types of cpus with different sockets....

So i suppose broadwell cpus will be compatible with haswell motherboards...
because if there are not...

They they're gonna make 100 new motherboards?

I dont know...its sounds bizarre to me

Hold on a second ! I thought skylake wasnt due until 2016 :-O Damn u technology, improving way too fast. Also 2 generations of cpus for desktop in same year by intel ?!

Is AMD bringing somwthing revolutionary or intel does this simply because they can ? :D

that doesn't make any sense. why would they release 2 different architectures at the same time?

Could be two different socket needs or maybe one is entirely for mobile range? Hmm

Sky lake will support DDR3 and DDR4 for mainstream PCs. It is also projected to have 30% better perf per watt. Its all on wikipedia, check it out.

I don't see the reasoning behind why Intel would release Skylake and Broadwell so close together. They'll just end up losing money on Broadwell and Skylake would be rushed out the door.

Well it's far from confirmed, but the thing is Skylake was always scheduled for 2015. Broadwell was scheduled for 2014 but got delayed. Haswell launched in 2013, Ivy Bridge 2012, Sandy Bridge 2011... Intel is on their annual tick-tock and may simply be correcting the delay caused by the delayed 14nm node for Broadwell.

The main R&D cost of Broadwell is in the 14nm node, the architecture itself is just Haswell. They might be able to sit on their hands in the competition against AMD, who are really lagging behind... but maybe Intel is instead pushing ahead because of competition from ARM. The sooner they get Skylake out, the sooner they can get to the Cannonlake die shrink that will make them even more viable in tablets and maybe even large phones.

Skylake is 14nm or 10nm ? Why would anybody want broadwell with skylake behind the door, doesnt make sense until we get full official info about each chip. Talking about desktop chips, dont care about mobile.
