CPU Idling at 45c

My I7-4790K is overclocked stable at 4.6. It idles at 45c but never goes over 85c even when editing and gaming. Should I be concerned that it idles that high? Or is it no big deal since it doesn't max over 85c. I have a Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212, but I am going with water cooling very soon. Also if you could do me a favor. what is a good quality, easy to install water cooling system around $130 tops. Thanks in advance.

I'd go for corsair h100i, I don't think 45 Is a bad idle temperature but you'd ideally want to get it around the 25 mark someone may correct me here lol

its fine, the load temp is what matters. Sure, low idle temps are nice, but 45°C isn't going to hurt your CPU at all, even in the long run. May I ask what your vcore is set to?

Bigger than normal OC for that cooler.

I've taken my 4790k to 5 ghz on my 212 evo, temps weren't pretty but I did it :q

@Op what's the voltage?

Lower your clock just a bit before you get a cooler, its good to 90 but no need to stress it. :)

212 is a relatively small cooler so 45 is ok for now. If it doesn't go under 30c under water cooling, then you have a reason to be concerned.

Intel i7-4770K temperatures with stock cooler:

4.6 was as far as I could go without going over the 85c mark, which is where my target temp was. May I ask, what temps did you get with it at 5?

True!

A good AIO is the kraken X61, along with the X41 if you only have a single 140mm fan mount. The H100i isn't bad, but you'd be better picking up a noctua nh-d15 for less and getting better performance for your money.

Do you know about how much my temps would drop if I switched to Liquid Cooling?

Like 92, it wasn't safe, I just wanted to see if my chip would do 5 ghz or not.

Can you lower it at all? or does it become unstable?

Keep in mind, the X41 a 140mm cooler beats the H100i, a 240 mm cooler. Id say 6,7 c

Not sure if this gives more info, but here is the link just in case. :3 http://gyazo.com/07a8e3e9c41dc5986d2617e8b036841a

I've heard people say that some water cooling blocks aren't compatible with their case, my case had top mounts for fans, it is the NZXT M59, do you know if my case would be compatible? And would you suggest the x41 over the H100i?

Yes i would, im not sure if its compatible, i would look at your fan mounts and see if you have a 140mm fan mont, then it wouold fit. NZXT has a master list somwhere of all of there compatible cases, its a NZXT cooler ya know

wow, that is an extremely high vcore for a Hyper 212, no wonder you get high idle temps. Are you sure your load temps don't go over 85°C? Try lowering it as much as you can without becoming unstable, see if you can get it down within the 1.2XX range, that would be more suited for your cooler. I have full custom loop watercooling and I get load temps of 75°C @ 1.330V, you either have VERY good airflow or perhaps bad readings.

I use HWMonitor to monitor temps, and it seems like it is legit readings, on idle it stays about 42-45c and on load, in Sony Vegas it goes to 75-80c and in Cinema 4D it hits 82-85c but never over it, I have the back side panel of my case off so I get some air flow there, and I have a back fan, a side fan, 2 top fans, and a front fan in my case, so I guess that is why it does ok temp wise.

try to run a CPU stress test, see where your temps go.

What program?

Intel XTU, aida64, pretty much anything but prime95.

I see lots of people answering max temp as problem but 45C is pretty high for idle, even if your volts are 1.3V constantly. Hows your room temp? Was the idle that high even with stock clocks? If so, then you probably have bad mount as 212 should stay well under 40C while idle.

This is the idle temp that Aida64 said. http://gyazo.com/3deb18a3126d4e7bc4fa37e40caa0111                         During the test, I tested for 2 minutes, this was close the the same temps and usage I got all out throught the 2 min.      http://gyazo.com/bf58f475558aecf4050ee6a6a42578e3           and directly after the test, here is my results.          http://gyazo.com/1a6cdfb549cce4be5b45aece48401447       Some of the cores got to 90c, so I think I am going to undo my overclock until I get water cooling.

those temps are actually acceptable, wow. I knew that the Hyper 212 was good, but I wouldn't have expected this.

Umm I don't really remember temps on stock, I had the heat sink that came with the processor on then, my room is really hot tbh, it stays around 78-85 degrees F. I am getting better cooling in about a week, so I am not really worried about it yet.

~30C room temp explains the idle, nvm...

E: It also explains higher temps under stress since every degree room temp goes up, so does idle and max temps.
