Trying to Decide on a Android phone

I am finally able to upgrade thru Verizon, currently have a iphone 5....but want to try android again... I am currently looking at the HTC one M8, but before I get it was wondering what are some currently good ones so i can research....I know i do npt want a samsubng

I have the HTC ONE M8 and love it. For me its the best phone out at the moment. In my mind you could not go wrong with it

The HTC One M8, LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (coming soon) are all good. I mentioned a Samsung phone while you said not to, but you should seriously consider it. Samsung devices are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be.

 

I personally own an M8 with Paranoid Android on it, and I love it to death.

Yes, the releases are available here, with more unofficial ports available by searching the name of your device and the carrier followed by "Paranoid Android".

Get a G3 (which is easily rootable), root it, load a custom ROM onto it, and enjoy seemingly stock Android on a great phone, because LG's shotty Optimus UI is awful. 

 

Do keep in mind that it will void your warranty, and you'll be doing this under contract, so do this at your own risk. 

 

Or buy a G2 for around $250 from Amazon (off contract) and do the same thing.

It is, but there is no CDMA version of the Z3, and it requires a nano-SIM card.

G3, even if you don't want to root, its software is a big improvement compared to last time

Z3 if you want the best battery life and camera right now. Reviewers confirm Sony's claim of its "two day battery" 

G3 if you want a pretty balanced phone. I have one and it's a great phone

M8 if you want great build quality and large front speakers. 

Samsung if you want the AMOLED screen (deep blacks, high brightness)

Nexus if you want stock Android with function in mind. 

 

You can't go wrong with any of those phones. It all comes down to what you want more.
