New Kingston HyperX Cloud bass problem?!

Hi,

 

My new Kingston HyperX Cloud headset arrived on friday and yesterday I noticed something - when playing audio with a lot of low tones (bass) an vibration or something of that sort is heard from the left earcup. First I noticed it while talking with friends on TeamSpeak, sometimes there would be that tone only from the left cup. Then I started to investigate with playing different sounds and on different devices (Asus Xonar DG on my PC, my integrated VIA VT1708S soundcard, my Huawei Ascend Y300 phone, my Lenovo A3500-FL tablet and my Notebok with a Realtek ALC883), and it all comes to the same - the hiss or vibration (or whatever that is) is there, only in the left earcup and only on low frequencies (such as Bass heavy music, ingame explosions, etc).

I don't think it has something to do with the membrane since all sounds are produced (everything is heard), but I'm worried and feeling bad luck.

What could it be?

Sounds normal to me, I have the Cloud aswell, might be just a faulty pair

no hiss, but a bass vibration ofcourse, and some wierd noise but 99.999999999% sure that thats the track itself.''

Hard to guess without further examinations (by qualified person, of course). If it's only in 1 cup, crude guess would be it's faulty. Or maybe just a simple thing, like the glue or screws that tighten the driver has come loose. You know, like in wooden speaker/sub boxes, if you loosen a few screws, and play low frequencies on them, they will sound a bit like 'bzzzzz' 

 

In any case, you could RMA it....

If it continues I will RMA them (and be without them for a few weeks; have to send them by post/delivery to the store and then they to the importer/dealer and then wait for the repaired or new headset delivery).

I still can't believe how bad luck I have with quality peripherals and pc parts, allmost everything I buy has some flaw or factory defect (and I'm not buying cheap things).

Something is definetly wrong here. The headset is even louder than my previous headphones/headsets on max although it has 60 Ohms impedance and my old ones 32 Ohm and the headphones I use on my mobile 16 Ohm.

Shouldn't the Cloud headset be quieter (on the same audio output strength)? Doesn't make any sense to me now. It seems I've got a factory defective headset, something like that should not happen with 100€ products.

Listened to that track a couple of times, no issue with the sound, sounds alright to me....using Xonar Phoebus + HX Cloud.

I've tried recording it using my old microphone directly on the earpad. It's audible, but not as when you hear it directly.

The sound is just like Creatip123 described, a bzzz like something is not attached as it should be (glued or screwed in).

And it's not that audible when listening to the headset on lower volumes (then that sound disappears).

I won't open the headset to check since that would woid my warranty and I don't want that to happen.

I will contact the store tomorrow and see what can be done and how fast. If they offer me an exchange I'm considering this time taking the Black (&red) version instead of the white (&black).

I have two options:

 

1. Send the faulty unit to the seller and receive the Black (&red) version instead. Would take ~5 work days and 5€ more than the 2nd option. Also, the cost for the "RMA" falls on the shop/seller since it would not be a real RMA but a product exchange (EU laws, you can exchange a product with no explainations in 2 weeks from purchase if you bought it without trying like from an web-shop).

 

2. Send the unit to the general importer repair service and receive the White version again. Would take at least 10 days and there is allways the posiblity that the repairman who would test the device for problems would just connect the device to some source and play his favorite song from youtube in which case he propably wouldn't notice the problem that occurs ony on really low frequencies with high volume and my RMA would not be accepted.

 

So, which option is better?

Dear god, who told you that a higher impedance headphone must necessarily be harder to drive? That's like trying to find out which CPU is faster by looking at how many gigahurtz it has.

You can use whatever setting you want. There's a few more variables than just headphone impedance when it comes to loudness.

 

The low frequency rattling could also just be hair in the driver. Open that puppy up and give 'er a good blow.

Hair in the driver? No, I checked for that (opened them to see). No damage was visible and there were no foreign objects that should not be there. I've concludet it must be the membrane since I've heard that kind of sound on a old speaker with a damaged membrane.

In a few days I'll have new headphones and that's it. But it costed me 85 croatian kunas more (about 12€ 14$) - the shipping of the broken one to the store and the shipping dfor the new pair from the store to me.

The replacement comes tomorrow (I hope), the shop received my package today and sent the new one. I will report back as soon the new one comes and I try it out.

I've had good luck with my hardware purchases thru the years, be them new or used. Just got an Audio Technica ATH-AD700x and it's flawless, sounds pretty transparent, though highs tend to be a tad harsh/bright.  Bass is quite neutral though, overall, a natural sounding pair of cans that tilts towards the bright side a little.
