The Xbox one wont play at 4k though. It can barely handle 1080p gaming let alone 4k lol. The support for 4k is for playback of videos and steaming im guessing

How many computer programmers does it take to change a light bulb?

None, that's a hardware problem.  :D

It will be able to output to 4k TVs but at native 4k resolution it will be limited to a 30hz refresh rate* which sucks. As for gaming at 4k, the games won't run at any higher than their native resolution, so say for Watch Dogs, you'd be running at 900p upscaled to 4k. On top of that, don't count on any games coming out for consoles at a native 4k resolution unless they're pixel art 2d indie games that require very little in terms of graphical icing on top, because the consoles just aren't powerful enough to push anything more than that at 4k. They can barely handle 1080p 60fps.

*Because it doesn't use HDMI 2.0 which was the first revision of HDMI capable of the bandwidth necessary for 4k 60hz.

Only for photo and video playback.

4K 1FPS for the best "photographic experience".

If you don't mind the latency, the upscaling looks great on a Samsung UHD. We played Lego MArvel on Xbox One with upscaling on(By default. To turn off, enable PC or Game mode.) and aliasing is non existent. Everything looks much sharper. Same goes with the Wii U. SM 3D World looks amazing and is playable but with Super MArio(Luigi) U, the latency makes it unplayable without PC Mode active. Mainly because it's a precise platformer. Timing and accuracy is key. That game is hard.

Both PS4 and XBONE struggle with 1080p and 60fps.. 4k is not going to happen on this generation unless it's some kind of low spec indy

They said that it would be capable of 4k blu ray playback, but I think they would need a new blu ray drive that supports the h.265 encoder used for special blu ray disks that support 4k, and 4k streaming, video playback, and photo viewing, but from my understanding no streaming service offers 4k, at least not to the xbox one yet, most people don't have 4k video, photos probably, but i'm part of the xbox one update preview program and ever since launch theres been no option to select 4k as my resolution, i'm on a 1080p monitor and it lets me select 1080p, 720p, and 480p, so I would imagine if 4k was supported it would be on that list, so my guess is thats it hasn't been added to the os at all, but if it were I would imagine it would appropriately scale the UI to look good in 4k, and do all the things I mentioned previously in 4k.
