Rebranded Graphics Cards

Speedbird

Hi

This thread was originally about AMD's 7000 and Rx 200 series and how some cards were rebranded. It has since been updated to include all graphics cards by AMD and NVIDIA since then.

AMD

200 series

HD 8570 -> R5 240, R7 240 (Oland)
HD 8670 -> R7 250 (Oland PRO)
HD 7770 GHz Edition -> R7 250X (Cape Verde XT)
HD 7790 -> R7 260, R7 260X (Bonaire)*
HD 7850 -> R7 265 (Pitcairn PRO)
HD 7870 -> R9 270 (Pitcairn XT)
HD 7870 GHz Edition -> R9 270X (Pitcairn XT)
HD 7950 -> R9 280 (Tahiti PRO)
HD 7970 GHz Edition -> R9 280X (Tahiti XT2)

All of these GCN 1.0 cores, except the R7 260 & 260X, which became GCN 1.1

*7790 used the Bonaire XT chip, while the 260 used Bonaire and the 260X used Bonaire XTX. 260 & 260X have TrueAudio enabled.

300 series

R7 250 -> R7 350, R7 340, R5 340 (OEM) (Oland XT)

R9 290X -> R9 390X (Hawaii XT)

400 series

R7 360 -> RX 455 (Bonaire)

500 series

All higher ends cards use the same GCN 4 microarchitecure, but with improvements and clock speed increases. Some have different core configs than their predecessors, these are not listed here. 520 and RX 530 use GCN 1 and 3 respectively.

RX 480 -> RX 580 (Ellesmere XT)

RX 470 -> RX 570 (Ellesmere Pro)

RX 460 -> RX 560 (Baffin)

Vega, VII and RX 5000 series cards use all new GCN 5 and RDNA architectures. No old cards have been carried over.

HD 7850 = R7 265

HD 7870 = R7 270/270X

The 270 is a rebranded 7870, Not 7850.

HD 7870 = R7 270/270X

The 270 is the same card as the 7870, Not 7850.

Ah, didn't see that on Wikipedia, thanks for pointing that out.

And I see you too are having problems with AMD's new naming scheme, it's the R9 270/270X :). Heck, even Linus messed up.

These were actually the most difficult cards for me, I knew that they were GCN 1.0 but I couldn't find a match in the 7000s or 8000s because the actual code name was changed.

The R7 260X is a 7790, just with TrueAudio enabled. The chips themselves are the same.

Yep. The 7790 has TrueAudio hardware in it, it's just disabled by software. There have been people that were able to flash their 7790 into a 260X, enabling TrueAudio.

Ok, I fixed it now. Would you have a look at the OP and see if I got everything right?

Yep, but shouldn't 7790 be 2nd on the list, between 7770 and 7850? :P
