Vizio P Series 4K@60hz, True Native 240hz Panel? 120hz input?

It seems all but the P502ui-B1E (120hz panel) in the P series has a 240hz refresh rate while the frame interpolation technology is something else entirely. Though no appropriate interface seems to be present to be able to actually input 240fps content. Just one HDMI 2.0, which I don't believe can pass 240hz even at 1080p but perhaps someone here can find a source indicating otherwise. Very interesting none the less. CTO claims the panel was made in-house as well as the SoC.

Also it apparently can do 120hz input (assuming over HDMI 2.0 at 1080p) as stated in this video at 5:05 during an interview with the Product Manager

Here is a video testing the input lag of the hdmi 2.0 port with a Leobodnar lag tester measuring at about as low as 0.2 ms

The crazy thing is that their 50" in P series starts at just $1000 and goes up from there to 70 in

I'm having a hard time believing all this but the evidence here is quite convincing. I'm curious to see if TFTCentral or Blurbusters could confirm these specs for us in a review soon

Oh yea, I wouldn't doubt trying to game at 4K at this time is too damn much. I was more impressed with the ability to do 120hz input, which means this is one of very few TV's you could actually play competitive games on lower resolution. Im interested in seeing what this would look like at 2560x1440. Bet I could push that resolution to a decent framerate but pixel interpolation could look bad, so I don't know. We'll see

I doubt it would take 1440p as an input over HDMI; probably 1080p.

Though it's possible, I have not seen a TV supporting 120Hz 2D input over HDMI (usually the 120Hz input is for 3D only -- 60Hz per eye).

The Seiki TV's are able to do it over HDMI 1.4: http://www.overclock.net/t/1442986/playing-with-my-seiki-se39uy04-got-it-to-do-1440p-at-60hz-playing-with-other-custom-stuff

Definitely possible and the Vizio team seemed fully acknowledge that the users of the P series would be using it to connect to HTPC's. I really like the approach they took on this line. No 3D, focus on 4K and streaming, custom full array backlighting, high native refresh rate, aggressive pricing. Maybe too good to be true but i'll have to try it out first

That sounds awesome then. I hope they can deliver on the promise with flexible input resolutions and refresh rates without compromising picture quality.

  • 1 month later...

im buying the 55 inch next month but from what im hearing people are having a hard time with 60 hz even with a 980 so im guessing mainly mean consoles but well see tv just came out

Buddy check this out:

http://www.cnet.com/products/vizio-p-series/

specifically the picture quality section, specifically the section about the 55 inch version. It uses an IPS display, which for PC gamers is usually seen as a positive thing, but it's not in this case. " the P55's black levels and contrast were clearly inferior to the P65's" " every size uses the VA screen except for the 55 inch."

Check this link for "proof" http://www.tnpanel.com/tn-vs-ips-va/

Addendum: Also, the vizio display is using HDMI 2.0 which according to this( http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/hdmi_2_0_faq.aspx) is capable of 1080p 240hz and 2160p 60hz... In my opinion you need a 120hz monitor even if your frame rates will only be averaging 60, but that's just me and my weird eyes.

Addendum 2: the Vizio P series has only 1 4k@60hz hdmi output so you better have one fantastic GPU... or have some sort of splicer.

Gaming since 97, aka the Almost No Longer a Noob Squad
