yes the CPU Graphics are wasted it will use the GPU graphics.

 

It depends on the CPU some AMD chips have very very similar versions without the integrated graphics but as for intel not so much

Hey all,

 

I was just wondering, if i get a CPU with onboard graphics and a GPU, is the CPU graphics wasted?

is it better to get a cheaper CPU without onboard graphics?

It depends, what CPU are you planning to buy?

 

There are many processors that don't have a no-graphics option or that the CPU with no onboard doesn't make sense. For example getting a Xeon instead of an i5 / i7 just because you don't want to "waste" those graphics.

On the other side there are CPUs that have their value on graphics, and you are paying a lot of the price of the product just for them, for example AMD APUs, it doesn't make sense to get one if you are going to be getting a decent dedicated GPU with it as well.

You should just go discrete GPU. You can crossfire the GPU on an AMD  APU but it is not really worth it.
